Look at life through another's eyes... to 'walk in your shoes' means the same thing; to see life through another person's viewpoint, to try to imaging what it would be like to be them.

To put yourself in someone else's position, and usually when its said it means to feel compassion for them because they are facing a difficult challenge, or a loss, etc.

To see things from another's perspective.
As in, you don't know how his life (or his shoes) feel to him, you only know how it appears to you.
