What does it mean when a person tells you "can't wait to show you the ropes".I know it does not mean literally ''ropes'' but I don't really understand that metaphore. I'm guessing it means "i can't wait to fill you in/tell you all about it ... but that's just a guess. Does anybody know the real meaning behind it and do people still use it (a lot)?

I hear a lot of people use that as an answer to questions. I have heard that this phrase has something to do with our Constitution, but I don't really know what it is. Basically, when some says "I plead the fifth", what is it that they are pleading?
