Murder and assassination are both planned killings of persons.
a murder is defined as the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought.
interestingly suicide is also known as self murder.
assassination is also a type of 'murder' but of a prominent personality.by sudden or secret attack often for political reasons..
the difference apparently is the motive behind the killing.. personal vs political
assassination is also described as to injure or destroy unexpectedly and treacherously.
assasination need not necessarily be of the body .. maligning a persons 'character' is reffered to as character assassination. defined as:
the slandering of a person usually with the intention of destroying public confidence in that person .
to be defined as an assasination.. the person murdered needs to be a prominent political figure.. the muder of any other famous personality.. no matter how famous will still be termed as murder.the motive behind the murder needs to be political..
1.One can take one of three positions ( this consideration is of necessity strictly based upon language, not law): that the killing of someone only for political, moral, or ideological reasons constitutes an assassination
2.he killing of someone serving in politics or public office
3. anyone with a significant level of political involvement would be an assassination victim in the event of their murder
for example.. and example purposes only..
heaven forbid but if 'ARNIE' gets shot now it would qualify as assassination as opposed to if he got shot in his "terminator "days would have been considered murder..
i think im beating a dead horse(neither murdered nor assasinated) now... but hope thats useful..
cheers!!

Your second question basically answers your first. Killing is the taking of a life, murder is the illegal or unwarranted taking of a life (soldiers in war-time kill but they don't murder), assassination is the murder of an important or famous person (although famous could well be infamous, depending on the person, and "important" and "famous" are relative terms).

Well, you wouldn't be well-liked if someone was sent out to assasinate you. You'd have to be pretty famous and if someone were to assasinate you, then you might have had had some views that they disagreed with or maybe you did something that angered them.
