What exactly does this quote mean?

"The truth is that Mozart, Pascal, Boolean Algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Marx, and Balanchine ballets don't redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the world. The white race is the cancer of human history."
-Susan Sontag

I know what most of it means, but I don't really understand some of it. So can someone just tell me exactly what it means, and put me out of my frustration? Lol.

In the movie, To Sir, with Love, Pamela, a student, reads this quote in the beginning of the movie. What is it from?
"And he had learned to love. I know not why, for this in such as him seemed strange of mood. But thus it was. And though in solitude’s small part the nipped affections have to grow. In him this glowed when all beside had ceased to glow."
Thanks.

I heard on NPR this morning that there was a man in the Middle East who was explaining that all of the fighting has to stop. He was the one who said something like "I can live with good people anywhere in the world. We are one country." Does anyone have this quote, or the name of the man that said this?

is there some sort of database of movie scripts or something that can pull out seemingly original phrases to let you know theyve been used before?

i was saved from sin when i was going on thirteen but not really saved it happened like this.there was a big revival at my auntie reeds church.every nights 4 weeks there had been much preaching, praying and shouting and very hardened sinners had been brought 2 christ, and the membership of the church had grown by leaps and bounds.then just before the revival ended they held a special meeting for children 2 bring the young lambs to the fold.my aunt spoke of it for days ahead.that night i was escorted to the front row and placed on the mourners bench with all the other young sinnerswho had not yet been brought to jesusmy aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light and something happened to u insideand jesus came into your life and god was with you from then on she said u could see and hear and feel jesus in your soul i believe her i had heard a great many old people say the same thing and it seem to me they ought 2 know so i sat ther calmly in the hot crowded church waiting 4 him

i was condering what that quote ment.. thanks

"The imagination of a boy is healthy, and the mature imagination of a man is healthy; but there is a space of life between, in which the soul is in a ferment, the character undecided, the way of life uncertain, the ambition thicksighted: thence proceeds mawkishness, and the thousand bitters which those men I speak of must necessarily taste in going over the following pages."
Preface to Endymion

Does that mean that the person goes through that mawkish phase before reading these pages? That the pages describe the mawkish phase? or that the pages will induce it?

I had a head injury several years - and some passages just dont make sense to me....this is one of them....
Could someone perhaps paraphrase it? or put it in more modernistic American English.
