I think it means that the man who makes a beast out of himself reduces himself to an animal state and by satisfing his basest aggressions and desires sheds the responsibility of behaving morally,ethically and spiritually as a man should. By ignoring these duties, he gets rid of the pain of being a man.

Serial killers and drunk drivers are two examples of this.

while being a man, one does think abt others and is pained by others sufferings...
and a beast is ridded of such humane sufferings.... it will just have any physical sufferings only....

A BEAST JUST GOES THROUGH THE LIFE CYCLE, WITHOUT KNOWING ANY BETTER. WHILE A MAN HAS TO ENDURE ALL LIFE'S UPS AND DOWNS ; IS STRONGER FOR IT , AND WISER.
