Haruey, the happy aboue happiest men
I read: that, sitting like a Looker-on
Of this worldes Stage, doest note with critique pen
The sharpe dislikes of each condition:
And, as one careless of suspition,
Ne fawnest for the fauour of the great;
Ne fearest foolish reprehension
Of faulty men, which daunger to thee threat.
But freely doest, of what thee list, entreat,
Like a great Lord of peerelesse liberty;
Lifting the Good vp to high Honours seat,
And the Euill damning euermore to dy.
For Life, and Death, is in thy doomefull writing:
So thy renowme liues euer by endighting.

Dublin this xviij of Iuly, 1586,
Your devoted frend, during life,
Edmund Spencer.

I was wondering what Admiral Yamamto mean by this quote..

"I fear we have only awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve"

Can anyone tell me what he meant by this quote. If you don't already know, it deals with Pearl Harbor. Thanks!

I am a very opinionated person. Yet I find quote searching a complete waste of time. Why quote search when you have your own outlook on life? I know this contradicts the whole point of this board so all self written quote are much appreciated. my favorite is of course one I wrote myself. ~~Humanity is pretty materialistic. You ask someone their fears and most will respond, “Insects” or “Heights.” Isn’t it quite unwise to dread such miniscule components of life? Yet in the shadows that people never check, lurk hulking atrocities. So you ask me what I fear and I shall tell you of those things that dwell in those corners. “But what lurks there,” you ask? Emotions. Pain, guilt, sorrow, hatred and others that goes unmentioned. For the greatest terrors in life are those that cause the most suffering and the thing that causes the most suffering is, just simply, emotion. ~~ So wat is your quote?

It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.
GEORGE WASHINGTON

The whole inspiration of our civilization springs from the teachings of Christ and the lessons of the prophets. To read the Bible for these fundamentals is a necessity of American life.
HERBERT HOOVER

In regard to this great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man's welfare, here and hereafter, are to found portrayed in it.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives. To the influence of this book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization, and to this we must look as our guide in the future. Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.
