Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, tho' they come from the ends of the earth

I wonder about the trees.
Why do we wish to bear
Forever the noise of these
More than another noise
So close to our dwelling place?
We suffer them by the day
Till we lose all measure of pace,
And fixity in our joys,
And acquire a listening air.
They are that that talks of going
But never gets away;
And that talks no less for knowing,
As it grows wiser and older,
That now it means to stay.
My feet tug at the floor
And my head sways to my shoulder
Sometimes when I watch trees sway,
From the window or the door.
I shall set forth for somewhere,
I shall make the reckless choice
Some day when they are in voice
And tossing so as to scare
The white clouds over them on.
I shall have less to say,
But I shall be gone.

I've forgotten the historical battle, but there was an event where two armies fought, and only 2 soldiers from one side and 1 from the other survived. Something specific (name of the town, name of the battle, name of a person, etc.) about it became known as a(n) ___________ victory- meaning a victory that is won, but perhaps the cost was too great. I mistakenly thought it came from the defeat of Leonitus and his 300 Spartans, and now want to know the correct historical event. Or it's entirely likely I'm off on all of it, and really need to be straightened out. Thank you for any help you can give me here!

I had to include an Allusion, the allusion; mine is to "Nature" -Emerson

Please tell me if it makes sense, and if the Allusion is placed well and easily pinpointed, also if it is any good.

Here it goes:

Men have said I am unworthy
But they do not understand
Others Praise me for my worth
But they too do not understand
Judgments aside:..
My dignity does not reside
In those transparent eyes
For I am as beautiful as my own nature.

"Why did the flower fade?
I clutched it to my heart in excess of feeling and crushed it.
Why did the lamp go out?
I shielded it to my heart in my cloak and it got no air."
