I am going to create a scrapbook out of pages with the letters of the alphabet and things colored, glued, painted or stamped on them. I will be gluing blue, brown and black buttons on the letter "B". I need ideas for the following letters,
e, j, i, l, o, q, u, v, x, z,

I am also going to fill a basket with small objects that begin with these letters, I will have a small bag of acorns, some apples and such in a basket on the day we learn about the letter "A". I need ideas on things around the house and inexpensive items to fill my basket with each day, for all letters.

I will be teaching a homeschooled co-op group and time is limited as is their attention span so nothing incredibly tedious or time consuming.

Thanks so much!!

Hi, I will be graduating from graduate school with a degree in early childhood education/early childhood special education in May 2008. One of the things I feel that has been severely lacking in my student teaching placements is a somewhat extensive reference list of books, songs and most importantly, activities (that can be done during carpet time with preK and kindergarteners). So I am building my 'toolbox'. I have some basic books, like "Where the Wild Things Are," a lot of Eric Carle, David Shannon, Dr. Seuss, and fairy tales and I remember some songs from my childhood, and I have seen some websites and books both in school and online, but I feel like there is more I need to know. Can any of you recommend a few songs/fingerplays that would be good for kids ages 3-6 and books no teacher should be without? if you have info on anything with science and math that's helpful, too. Thanks for your help!

My child is now at Learning Ladder but her location is closing. However, Chesterbrook Academy is opening in 3 locations in the area. Also, I'm thinking of enrolling my child in public school for kindergarden. What are your thoughts on this?

I will be teaching pre-k and I once saw this bulletin board where students brought in words from things the knew: food, stores, boxes, anything. Mostly environmental print. But I can't remember what the saying was on the board. Any ideas?

The kids are aged 2-5 and they are learning colors. For black and white day, I thought about teaching them the different races and how we are all the same even though we can look different. I thought of making black and white copies of people to color and put on popsicle sticks or something... any other ideas are appreciated even if they are unrelated to races but ARE related to the black and white theme. Thanks!

I am looking for preschool for my daughter. Please help me finding a good private or public preschool which has a balanced approach in playing and learning. Safety is also one of the most important criteria.

Of Diabetes#1 insulin depandant(but doesn't need insulin during school) so far. My 4yr old daughter is starting kindergarten(half days). Last yr went to his school daily at his lunchtime to give him his lunchtime blood sugar test (which is only a prick in the finger) of course I was willing to do it. Anyways, the school does not want to do his blood sugar test. And my daughter will be starting junior kindergarten which is half days, so it will be pretty busy. Any good suggestions of how i can get the school to do an easy blood sugar test to my son?? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanku.

My mother is a first year pre school teacher who has a little boy who does not speak english at all. He speaks spanish, but absolutely NO english whatsoever. Hes getting very frustrated in class because he doesnt understand anything thats going on around him. I suggested she find some sort of dvds and workbooks to send home with this boy to help him out. Can anyone suggest a dvd system or book system to help a 4 year old learn to speak english that doesnt cost much money? Thanks!

Earlier tonight, another parent who raised three kids told me it is a good idea to provide as best an education as possible for pre-school and kindergarten (i.e., try to afford the expensive schools) in order to create a solid foundation for future learning. Afterwards, public versus private schools are less of an issue because the child would be more likely to flourish either way.

Previously, I had asked a similar question regarding whether it is already important to consider options education-wise for a 2-year old. The most profound answer was at this age to invest my time; and, save the money for later. But, now, I'm wondering whether this either conflicts or adds to my parenting role.

Does anyone know how I can find out more information about doing this? I have a Masters in Special Education from the University of Oregon and many units in Early Childhood Education, and now that I have a toddler of my own, I would like to know more about starting a preschool in my home.

What do I need in order to get LICENSED?

I am already First Aid and CPR certified, and have tons of teaching experiences from internships and previous jobs. I already have everything I will need from toys to crafts to a structured curriculum.

Anything information helps, and a website would be great. Thanks in advance!

Good morning all. I was wondering if anyone can lend me some advice. I want to know if I should send my toddler to preschool for 3 year olds. I'm nervous about it though; my son (Eddie) is hearing impaired, and wears hearing aids [which he loves to try and flush down the toilet] and I don't want abuncha little kids playing with them. He's also the son of two very proud fathers, and I don't want that to be an issue if we decide to send him.

I'm anxious to hear what you have to say. IM or email is fine with me; address and YIM is madmajito.

Thanks all,
--Max

I went to sign my daughter up for pre k at the public school here in Maryland and found out today that she wont be accepted due to the fact that they only take low income for the state funding. There isnt a daycare that gives her the schooling that would be necessary because most of them are just babysitters, not real teachers. Why is there nothing for the working parents??? I work my a** off and pay taxes, for what!! I want my children to have an education, the lower incomes just want somewhere to take there kid. Now Im not trying to be rude or judgemental but for the most part that is what is going on... ITS NOT FAIR!!!
