You can read well enough to make use of this web site, and the wonderful opportunity for communication it represents. So what can you say to encourage people to care about literacy, and to help anyone who wants to, young or old, learn to read? And while we are at it, what are your ideas on how to improve literacy? Might mention where you live, since this is a world wide web, after all.

Are they seriously hoping everyone else will do their homework for them?! Shame on the kids for not learning, but double shame on the parents for not enforcing it!

I'm going to college, but am still confused about LOTS of things that nobody taught us in school. I keep hearing traditional and non-traditonal students and want to know the difference.

Sometimes, I really feel that there's no point in them. When we take a test, we only have to memorize the information for a short while, just long enough to take the test. We can look over it just before the test, or the night before and still get a 100. It doesn't really measure your knowledge. I mean, I get 100s on a lot of tests because all I have to do is memorize, but it's pretty pointless. You barely have to know any concepts, because you just go over everything in class.

The way school and tests are is good for me because I have a good short-term memory, but I still don't really like tests.

Although our constitution gives all of its citizen equal right to education, there are different curriculums in our present education system. Access to these are according to the economic standard of the parent. The CBSE / ICSE schools are affordable only to rich students where they get comparatively better education than their SSC counterparts. Is this right? Another important point is the medium of education. With globalization, the role of English language is more & more important now. But India, a country which looks hopefully at globalization tend to provide English education to rich students only! Why?
My papa & his siblings got educated in British India. They have good command over English. But the point to be noted is that my grandpa was a poor man who worked hard to educate his sons.If my grandpa lived in today's India, his sons could never get English education. why? What u could gain under 4in rule is unthinkble in free India!!! WHY?

For instance, and perhaps especially, in the humanities field. Should I call Dr. English a Doctor for earning a PhD in Literature? I realize it is the title conferred, but with the prevailing social understanding of "Doctor" as "Medical Doctor," perhaps a new term should be coined? I dunno.

Here's the deal. We've only had 1 week of school. The teacher assigned us an accounting problem to be done in Excel spreadsheet. I had no problem with this because my 1st accounting class required you to do ALL your work in Excel and it had to be perfect(perfect format, formulas in the appropriate cells etc.) so since I was told that this would be expected of me in any future accounting class, I have used this format for everything. Because of these things I am being told that the work is not mine and that I copied it from the solutions manual. I asked her to tell me what parts of the spreadsheet make her assume that it wasn't my work and she said stuff like the format, and the formulas used in the cells, basically the stuff that was drilled into my head in my first class. I guess she assumes that I wouldnt know how to use Excel and that I wouldn't prepare the spreadsheet professionally because quote "other students did not present the same similarities"
