Your grades from 9th through 12th matter a lot to the colleges that you will be applying at. If mommy and daddy are super rich then don't sweat it, if they are not, get good grades, make it a habit. Only 3% of the people graduating from college go to work in their chosen field and there is a reason for that; screwing off in high school.

Good Luck

As previously mentioned, any college can (and probably will) request a copy of your transcript. This means that the semester grades you make are vital.
It is worth noting that if you are doing exceptionally well in the class, you could get a lower grade on the final and still walk out of the class with a good grade. The only grade the colleges care about is the final grade for the semester.

It absolutely matters.
9th grade is still high school and colleges care.
They like to see that you START out strong and that you can FINISH strong and maintain your grades in between.

If they see you in 9th grade still trying to adjust to high school life, they'll think you won't be able to adjust to college fast enough.
Finals are a certain percentage of your grade. They can make the difference between the A, or the C.
Do yourself a favor! Go study! (and good luck!)

Look at it this way: your 9th grade finals are 1/4 of your total high school grades, which will be determining whether you get to go to a good college.

So, yes, they matter.

9th grade counts, everything from 9th grade on counts. An upward trend (or maintaining the same grades at least) is what colleges look for. This is what I tell my brother all the time.

Yes, 9th grade grades count. 9th grade is considered high school. When I applied for my master's degree program the university looked at my grades in high school (9th - 12th grade) and my undergrad grades. Go study...it does count!

NO not at all i'm a highschool senior if you fcuck up freshman year you can always pull your grades up the next 3 years. i fcuked up freshman year and half of sophmore year but now i'm taking MiLE classes offered in my school where you take a class and teach yourself read the book yourself and then come to class ones a week for a test and final and at the end if you pass you get a 98 instead of an A on grades. anyways EVERYHIGHSCHOOL across the country have these type of classes you should ask at your school.

freshman year isnt looked at by most colleges, but it puts your feet in the water. the only reason you would have to do good on your finals freshman year is because it determines your classes for your sophmore year which REALLY matters! Good luck on your finals!
