Becoming fit at times can be strenuous and in order for our bodies to perform at desired pace we must first begin with a strong heart. According to Marilynn Marchione, Italian researchers have implemented Waltz in cardiac rehabilitation exercise programs and have produced positive results. After suffering from heart problems exercise becomes a crucial key to improving patient’s health, however, more than 70% of patients drop out of traditional programs. In an eight week study, researchers divided 100 patients into three exercise programs. Researchers assigned one group to a traditional exercise program of cycling and treadmill, the second group was assigned to dance classes, and the third group had no exercise. The results of the study were that the traditional program and the dance class’s fitness increased at similar rates. The dance classes produced higher rates in oxygen uptake, anaerobic threshold, and also showed that dancers' arteries were more able to dilate and expand in response to exercise. Why did the dance program work so well? Part of the success may be that Waltzing requires a partner and a social companion making it more fun than the traditional program which is done alone.
