If it's research related, I'll tell them how they can do a search on the topic and usually tell them that using the internet properly to find information is a necessary skill these days in school. In math, I go through the steps for them so that hopefully they'll know how to the type of problem should they see it again.
I ignore people who post multiple choice, fill in the blank, etc, and people who ask if someone can write their essay for them.

that's rather a sweeping generalisation, I don't believe they all come here and expect essays or thirty maths problems resolved. Some really have exhausted all the possible avenues and have no other means to complete their work, teachers and parents are not always available and isn't it better they make some sort of attempt rather than not do it all?
Used correctly, this category is just another helpful aid. What irritates me is the amount of people who point game by answering questions they should really leave alone with retorts such as 'do it yourself' 'google it' etc etc. I usually just smile and feel that the respondent felt overwhelmed that the kid asking the question already knows way more than they do, and it causes them to feel insecure and mean.

I am in total agreement with you.
I have been known to suggest sources. That is about it. Kids need to do their own homework. Learning to cheat is a one-way street to ultimate failure in life. I am a historian, but I have mostly stopped answering questions regarding history for this very reason. You never know why someone is asking.

Most people on here usually give bogase answers, that usually confuse you even more, like on the question before this someone wanted to know the answer for a density question of a diving board or something like that, and the answers for the question were either guesses (oh i think its 1 million but im not sure) or places where to get answers like (you should try "so and so .com" they know alot about density formulas there)

This option isn't about "GIVING ANSWERS". Most responses that I've seen in this section help direct the kids to the answer or explain how to come up with the answer and also include the correct answer so that they can better understand it. Sometimes the way their teacher explains a process isn't compatible with how their brain functions.

If they are looking for someone to do it, no i don't answer. If they are looking for some guidance or assistance, sure- it's no different than if the teacher was pointing them in the right direction. I agree that there are quite a few on here wanting it done for them. Hmmm, wonder what will happen at test time?!

I don't ever give the answers. I give them tips on understanding the subject matter, or point them in the right direction. I tutor kids, so I only try to help, not cheat because that only hurts them in the long run.

I bypass those types of questions completely...only kids I help with homework are my own and even then I don't hand them the answers. No one gave me answers through any of my education Primary right through to University ... so I actually know how to give change without a cash register showing me, calculus and trig, psychology and forensics, etc. I've worked with Uni BA's etc who couldn't even spell let alone figure out a simple problem...they probably got their answers from someone else too. :)

You know the funny thing??!!!! If they just took the time to type their question into Google or something of that nature, they would have their answer instead of asking it on here. Believe it or not, everyone on here does not know everything about everything! LoL. :) Why take the chance of getting your answer wrong for your school work? I dont get it.

I answer them but in two ways. If the question clearly indicates they have made no attempt on their own, I dump on them. If they show a genuine difficulty, I will help them analyze the problem and point them along the way. I try not to provide the answer by itself.
