I have to answer questions for a DBQ. One of the documents is an exerpt from te Hippocratic Oath and the question is asking who Hippocrates is. I have NO idea who he is. So if you could tell me who he is, it doesn't have to be TOO detailed, that would be great!
Thanks

Basically, hippocrates was the ancient greek who is considered to be the first modern doctor.

Before that, doctors would heal based on superstition and stuff, but hippocrates was the first [that we know of] to use science and experiment to determine the best cure for a particular illness.

Hippocrates is perhaps history's most famous physician. By rejecting superstition in favor of scientific observation, by classifying diseases, and by creating a set of moral and professional standards for physicians, he earned the title of 'Father of Medicine.' He also gave the world the Hippocratic Oath, a code of ethics for physicians which is still taken by graduates at many modern medical schools

Hippocrates of Cos II or Hippokrates of Kos (c. 460 BC — c. 370 BC, Greek: Ἱπποκράτης, Hippokrátēs or ‘IppokrátÄ«s) was an ancient Greek physician of the Age of Pericles, considered one of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine. He is often referred to as "The Father of Medicine" in recognition of his lasting contributions to the field as the founder of the Hippocratic school of medicine. This intellectual school revolutionized medicine in ancient Greece, establishing it as a discipline distinct from other fields that it had traditionally been associated with (notably theurgy and philosophy) and making a profession of it.[2][3]

The Hippocratic Corpus, the collection of works produced by the Hippocratic school, is largely responsible for Hippocrates's renown. That body of work, however, is limited in its historical value because of its ambiguous authorship and a dearth of historical context. As such, the achievements of the writers of the Corpus, the practitioners of Hippocratic medicine and Hippocrates himself are often commingled; very little is known about what Hippocrates actually thought, wrote and did. Nevertheless, Hippocrates is commonly portrayed as the paragon of the ancient physician. In particular, he is credited with greatly advancing clinical medicine, summing up the medical knowledge of previous schools, and prescribing practices for physicians through the Hippocratic Oath and other works.[2][4]
