I get college loan offers from banks all the time. Some of them say they can be used for all college expenses, including a vehicle, computer, housing--but does housing only mean on campus? What if I am a student who lives in my own apartment?

my husband and I just want to go to school, we have made some mistakes growing up (we went to home school and didn't take it seriously enough) but also we were both in families that we had to be independent at 18. We are married with one son and we both want to go back to school to make something of ourselves. It is so frustrating because we make too much for FAFSA but we would have to work less in order to go to school. I am scared to take out loans and nothing seems to account for the fact that you have to live (pay rent, groceries, bills etc.) while help with books is great we need to be able to live and can stay with mommy and daddy. The worst thing is that it seems like people who want to can live on welfare, we aren't looking for a hand out, just some help with moving forward with life. Any one have advice?

I'm 26 and I will soon be applying for chiropractic school for early next year. I will be enrolled full time and know that I will need financial aid. I estimate that I will need $120k in loans. I have been told that when you apply for the FAFSA, they score you with how much you should be able to afford for your tuition, then they give you loans, etc.

I don't understand how they calculate this score, but I will probably have maybe $10k by the end of the year. Would it make more sense to have my parents hold this money for me so that it appears that I have less money to contribute for school? Any other suggestions when applying for financial aid?

I'm getting married in Aug. 2007. I'm already considered an independent for the 2007-2008 school year since I will turn 24 this year, so I don't have to report my parents' income. I was just wondering if being married would have an effect on the amount of a pell grant.

Schools offer student loans to those who need hlep with schooling..

Well I get some finacial aid and the rest i have to pay with student loans...
Then you get the six percetn interest rate and dont have to payt until six months after you graduate.

So where after you graduate and want to get a loan will you find this low intrest rate? NO WHERE.

So is it a good idea to just get the max student loan available now and just save it for future use...
Or no

I have been trying so many scholarships. I've written so many essays and tried other outside scholarships but i haven't heard from any of them. Now it's like all my hope is on whatever money the school offers me and government aid. Where can i find scholarships that can help me pay for the gap in whatever amount the university offers me?

Hello, I've heard that if you go to school to get a degree in education, that (depending on the school you work for after graduating) they will pay off your student loan if you agree to be an employee there for a predetermined amount of time. So if you'd quit your job as a teacher before the end of your 'tenure' you need to pay off your own student loan, rather than your employer paying it off. Is there such a thing? Thanks so much!

My boyfriend is 23, 24 in june. He'd like to take out his first loan (as a senior), to pay off a high interest credit debt. His parents are very unlikely to give out their information, they also wouldn't advise him to take out a loan because it's "trouble".

I want to study and have been offered a preliminary place on a course at an Australian university. It is for a Postgraduate Diploma leading to a Masters. The univsersity does not offer international scholoarships for this course and there is only one suitable scholarship available via the Au govt. Does anybody have other ideas of where i might look and where i may find funding, as it is the only thing holding me back at the moment.

I am a freshman in college, and my parents are refusing to help me pay. Because they are capable of paying, though, I am not eligible for need-based aid from my school. I want to gain independence so only my own funds are looked at in the financial aid process.

So, ignoring the questionable ethics, is it true that if I get married (just for convenience) I will be considered legally independent from my parents? Will this increase my eligibility for aid next year? Has anyone actually done this?

Thanks.

I need to send my child to Slyvan Learning Center, I already got a P.A. Classroom Plus Program that allows me up to $500.00 for tutoring. The only problem is, it cost $200.00 to take the test. I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford that. Some one said to check into SallieMae, I can not find anywhere on there that will let me know about Slyvan and how I can get it to cover for the program. How can I get this to be paid for? AND NO I'M NOT TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE, like I have said above, I'm on a fixed income. She needs it for her reading and math.
