The best place is to start at the community college which is very affordable compared to attending a 4 year college or university. Also, it makes it easier to afford the tuition if you wanted to work part time and attend school. On the other hand, it makes it easier to find enough scholarships possibly to pay for college. I will mention several free sources to locate money for college.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself. It will enable you to qualify for the work study program which will provide both cash and work experience. The form becomes available on January 1 of each year.

Second, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships for high school juniors and seniors.

Third, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

First off, if you are fresh out of high school and still at home your parents, in the eyes of the lenders they are obligated to assist. Go after any and all grants and scholarships you can. In the end though you will probably end up with student loans like the rest of us. There is always enlistment and a G.I. bill.

You are going to need your parents to help you complete the FAFSA, after that private schools will usually give you the most money - but it may not still cover all your costs. Speak to your guidance counselor about which schools may consider you a prime candidate because if a school wants you they will offer you more aid.
