Anyone know the annual salary of an English Professor with a masters degree? I want to major in English and become a professor but many people tell me that professors don't make much money compared to the amount they give to go to school for the years they do. Any advice and info would help.

Honestly, what is it with people? Not only is it harder to understand some of the questions, but it just looks and sounds downright ignorant! I'm a lot more apt to answer a question when the words are spelled out fairly correctly. And in case you haven't noticed, above the space where you enter your question, there's this place that reads "Check Spelling". It's almost like magic! After you're done typing, hit that button, and just like that - it tells you what words are spelled incorrectly! What more could you ask for! So, say it with me, folks......"I will use the spell check feature before posting my questions!"

Much better!

In the opening chapter, the author is describing the mood of the people before the incident. The author is telling us that the people felt safe and secure despite the warning signs from Mars that might have led us to believe there was life on other planets. But we were oblivious to these signals, thus the abrupt occurrences. The atmosphere of the setting in the first chapter is very peaceful because only a few people expected and knew that something was going on. One of the sentences that contribute to the mood of the chapter is; “and he scoffed at the vulgar idea of its having inhabitants who were signaling us.” What I was thinking at this point in the novel is that we have creatures on our planet that can live without the things we can. Some can live without sun, others without air. How could they of known for sure that it isn’t possible for a type of creature that we hadn’t discovered yet that could live without both?

"He was an excellent student, following his older brother's lead."

I know if it starts with the participial phrase, yes, a comma follows. But, what about these?

Thanks!

I am really looking forward to going back to school. I am one of those people who likes to keep busy and as crazy as it sounds, I can't wait to go back! I am tired of the days when I don't have something to do (not that it happens everyday, lol) and I really miss all of my friends that I don't normally see outside of school. I also can't wait for the fall/winter because winter is my favorite season. Anyone else excited to go back to school?

They cannot talk about educating the children because by now everyone knows, even though they are only a small percent, that home schooled students are winning all the spelling and geography bees, and that they are getting into the best colleges and graduating with honors. They also know that public schools do such a poor job of teaching that students fail to learn good study habits they need to do well in college and they are graduating from high school unable to read their diplomas.

By any standard it is obvious that home schooled students are far better educated. Therefore, the naysayers talk about learning social skills because social skills are almost impossible to qualify and measure. It makes you wonder how, when the country was lightly populated and most people lived on farms, how their great great grandparents and men such as Washington, Jefferson, and the other founding fathers ever developed social skills.
