I would consider them to be more pretentious if anything because they equate the high tuition with prominence and respectibility at that particular university. I have encountered faculty members who are full of themselves regarding their accolades and research at high end schools, but that can be found anywhere.

I think insulting is the wrong word to use. Arrogant is better. Alot of professors think they are the source of knowledge for the material and know everything about it, which isn't true.
