Ok, lets see, This semester I am going back to college full time for the first time since like spring 2005, with a new major. I agree with a lot of the responses here such as, get proper sleep, keep a healthy diet, and exercise. If I had to pick five most important things, I would say it would definitely have to be based on the age/ grade of the student, for example I am 26, and am in college. My requirements would be much different than lets say a 10 year old in what, third, fourth grade. SO for me, I would say this list would be good.
1. New Pericles for math, Pens for everything else.
2. 1 Subject notebooks
3. A new Trapper is required for each major course.
4. Update computer software for what classes need them for ex, I am going to buy the new MS Office 2007 when I can.
5. Update computer, printer's etc. Laptops are great for school, and a tower is great to get work done at home. Get a USB 2.0 Thumb Drive at 1.0GB or more to bring work to and from school easyly.

I go to college - so I make sure I have all the supplies I need and then extras in my book bag. All the appropriate books and study materials.
I also prepare a good place to study in my house that is free of clutter and disturbances.
I also prepare by making sure I have warm/or cool clothing that is comfortable for school - and appropriate shoes for walking all over the campus.
Once school starts I study like mad - and I am mentally prepared to get an A in my courses and I make sure I study every free moment I have and I make sure I start my papers at least 1 wk before they are due. I make sure I don't do any of the homework last minute. I also work full time and that can be hard - but I always remember - MY FUTURE DEPENDS ON ME DOING MY BEST!
