I love how high school teachers lose their student's work and then try to say that the student(s) never handed in the assignment.

This is what is happening to me right now, and I am the top student in my class too; hordes of high school teachers seem to dislike the idea of admitting that they lost your work.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Tell me your story!

Other than the obvious autumn foliage, what are other things that you can think of that are associated with autumn (clothing, shapes...not so much colour). Your ideas would be greatly appreciated. [This is for a design project]

I am working at a MRDD workshop and there is a man there who is probably in his older 40's. I have been meeting with him once a week to help him learn how to read. He was pulled out of school when he was really young and is illiterate as a result. Other than his illiteracy, he appears to be a typically functioning adult. His desire is to learn how to read and I really want to help him with it, but I don't have the resources. (Money, books, or workbooks) Does anyone know of any websites that offer free worksheets, etc.? I am a senior college student who is an Education major, so I know how to teach him, I'm just hurting from a lack of resources. So anything that anyone knows of will be a lot of help. Thank you and God bless!

~I have this tricky, multiple-choice question on a really important exam that I have to take for Algebra 1... I know how to do the problem (stated in the question above), but somehow the answers are all different from my result... I mean, if the dimension of a square is 1+√3, all I have to do is FOIL, right? (1+√3)(1+√3) The only problem is, I must be doing something wrong... The answers on the exam say:

a). 4
b). 4 + 2√2
c). 3√3
d). 5

Could somebody please explain this to me, pretty please? :-)

Thanks a ton!!

Hi,
Just typing up a report and wondered what the correct spelling might be.

I know people are probably going to say I'm a little pr!ck for asking this, but honestly, why do so many people make such horrendous errors? Let me disarm some wrath by saying that everyone makes some mistakes every now and then, especially when they are trying to write out an answer quickly. Also, I've gotten some wonderful replies from people who might not have the best spelling, but it is obvious that they are intelligent and well educated; spelling is not everyone's forte, I know.

What bothers me is the fact that some answers on here are nearly positively incomprehensible. Is the general level of education declining to such extent that mediocrity---and worse than mediocrity---is the acceptable standard? I've also noticed that those who pontificate the most, who give the most pompous answers(usually in the religion section), are among the worst spellers.

Please bear in mind that I'm referring to the minority, but it is a glaring minority. Anyone else agree?

I am in Algebra 1 in the 8th grade. I am moving on to Geometry, for sure, freshmen year. I was talking to my friend and she offered to tutor me for the final exam. I have a D+, but I am doing extra credit and such. My percentage is 69. My teacher said that she thinks, and bets, that I will raise my grade. I need 95% or higher on the exam to get a C+/B- and when I turn in the extra credit I will have a B/B+. I came home today and told my father, since he hates when I keep secrets. He nearly had a heart attack! He started screaming and yelling, I tried to explain to him what everyone and me were doing to raise my grade, yet he still yelled at me. He said that I can't fail and that if I have anything below a B I will go to a summer school. I said that I can't because the school has to send you to one, if you fail. I won't fail. Even if I take the Exam and get above an 80%, I can't go. What should I do about my dad? Do you think I'll end up going to summer school? What should I do? HELP!
