I was wondering... What are my chances of being accepted if I decide to pursue Johns Hopkins? Has anyone here been wait-listed from JHU and then accepted? I just want to know if it is worthwhile or if I should just choose another college. Thanks for the help!!

I am currently a junior in high school. I rank 70 out of 565 people and take 3 AP classes and 2 Pre-AP. I have a 96 grade average. I am involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, Young Democrats, and Mock Trial. I volunteer at a hosiptal, nursing home, homeless shelter, public library, and tutor 5th graders. Compared to other students in my class I'm not really smart. However, I have a bad situation at home. My mother is a single parent who came from Africa and speaks no English, so I have to rely on myself to do my homework. She works as a housekeeper and earns only $13,000 a year. I have lots of disadavantges financially and emotionally, I am physically abused. How do I should colleges like: Cornell, Columbia, Standford, University of Washington at St.Louis, UCLA, and Berkley that I would have better grades if it weren't for my living suitation and do you think I will be accepeted??

However, there were also weaknesses highlighted by both my peers and my tutor. The main area for improvement as indicated was the use of visual aids in the presentation. Comments pointed out that images shown on the OHP were not accurately focused and therefore made viewing for audience members difficult. This error was due to nervousness during the delivery of the presentation that disabled me to focus the OHP before showing it to the audience. It is important to rectify this mistake in future presentation as I consider the use of visual aids important in presentations. What I should have done was use the OHP during my practice sessions and put myself in the position of the audience, or asked the audience if they could see it properly.

Another important weakness identified by my tutor and my peers was the method I used to explain the different physical and psychological effects of domestic violence. Instead of naming all the effects first and explaining it one by one afterwards, I could have used the cover and reveal technique to allow the audience to focus on the effects one by one as I elaborate on them. Also, this would have allowed me to interact more fully with the OHP and would have helped the audience digest the information.

Furthermore, weaknesses identified by my peers included not speaking fluently during the presentation and not responding effectively to questions posed following the oral presentation. During feedback, they specified that there were some grammatical errors and pronunciation difficulties in the talk. They indicated that these were unimportant faults and could be the result of nervousness that did not affect the whole delivery of the presentation. They also mentioned that their questions were not answered successfully as it was possible to. This error could have improved by simply writing down the possible questions that could occur and thoroughly researching for the possible answer to the question. Also, however I tried to omit some grammatical errors during the planning and practice sessions; grammatical mistakes were made probably due to nervousness during the talk. This could only be enhanced by building self-confidence through practice, and by gaining further experience to reduce nervousness.

All in all, In spite of the weaknesses, I believe that the presentation successfully achieved all the set criteria for this assignment. If I had to carry out this task again, I would use the similar structure and visual aids. The only amendments I would make would be accurately focusing the OHP before hand, and learning to use the OHP by means of practicing. Also, I would use the cover and reveal technique introduced by my tutor to allow the audience to focus on the effects one by one as I elaborate on them, as well as to interact more fully with the OHP. Moreover, to conquer my fear and nervousness, I would practice more and gain more experience. To conclude, this presentation has given me a valuable experience which will be useful for university standard studies, and has built my self-confidence in speaking English in front of native speakers, which probably would have never happened.

For my post bac application I have to discuss why I am interested in working in underserved communities.
The only reason I can give is that I believe that everyone, regardless of income or status, deserves adequate healthcare. The only backing I have with this is when I did my volunteering at a hospital I really liked how the hospital treated patients first then worried about whether the patient could pay for it or not.
What questions should I be asking myself to help me write this part?

Another question asked is what I plan to contribute.
I plan to share my experiences from volunteering so help better the medical community. What questions should I be asking myself to answer thta question?

My daughter was to graduate college in May. She missed one of four exams in a class due to an interview arranged by prospective employer. Professor will not allow her to make-up exam and, therefore, she will have to retake that class only, in order to graduate. There is a scheduled date for makeups for athletes. She is an excellent student, 3.8 gpa. Just found out she will not graduate due to this Prof. not allowing her to take one exam. She has worked the last 4 years to get this degree, and a career in business/marketing. Why should athletes be allowed to makeup an exam and not a student trying to get a job. That is why we send our kids to school. The interview was arranged by prospective employer, out of state, and was the third and final interview with a great company? Please help - thank you. Signed, frustrated mom trying to pay for 2 in college.

I'm 12 years old, and I've just recently skipped a grade... well 1quarter of 6th grade and 3 quarters of 7th grade, but I think that if I studied online all the 8th grade classes, then I would be successful my freshman year. The age difference hasn't bothered me, like most poeople have said it would. I would like to be a graduate from harvard medical school in surgery, somewhere in the future because it just fasinates me. My own dad doesn't believe in me, but my mom was so happy about it, she took me to olive garden, the movies, and bought me and my sister expensive clothes from the mall. I'm not a greedy person, I'm just proud that I've held my head up high when nobody saw it in me. My IQ is 150, and my teachers say they are amazed by my learning ability. I want to skip a grade again, but what do I do? HeLp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!URGENT
