Among them that a player cannot run with the ball. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. But cannot be held with the arms or body.
The original baskets that players threw the ball into were half-bushel peach baskets. These baskets were nailed to the railing of the gym’s balcony at either end of the court. Whenever a goal was scored, a person standing on the balcony had to reach in and take the ball out of the basket.
Basketball was immediately popular. It spread to YMCAs throughout America and in many other countries. Women’s basketball was introduced at Smith College in 1892 and rapidly took off. By 1905, there were private athletic clubs for basketball. There were high school and college teams.
Basketball was first played at the Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany, in 1936. it was the very first time the Olympics included basketball. James Naismith himself threw the opening jump ball at that first basketball game in the Olympics.

The game of basketball was invented in America. It was invented by a physical education teacher from Canada. His name was James Naismith. Basketball was devised in 1891 by Naismith. Naismith was employed in the job of teaching a high-spirited group of young men in a gym class at the YMCA in Springfiled, Massachusetts; he was instructed to create a new game that would keep the young men in his class busy indoors. This was because the winter was too cold and windy in Springfield to be playing a sport outdoors. Naismith tried to think up a game that would be easy to learn but would be challenging; it had to be one that could be played indoors by a large number of players and that would give a lot of exercise.
Players used a soccer ball. Players had to throw the ball into raised baskets, so he called the game “basketball.” It took Naismith only about an hour to make up the original rules for basketball. There were thirteen of these rules. (Continue)

we (here Parents) still claim her and get money back? We had someone else file our taxes this yr and they told us that she would get more money back all together if she filled single and her college. Well my daughter already got her big check in the mail for around 800 and I got a letter from the IRS, that there was some typos and a check only for 63 dollars and we owe the federal 186. Is there anyway we can still claim our daughter since she still lives at home? Will we get more money back?? Im so stressed out. Anything will help!

I am trying to choose a math curriculum for my child who will be in 4th grade next year. We have done just about everything. This year is Abeka, which I will stick with for everything but Math for next year. I have found their Math program to be highly unsatisfactory this year. Having said that, I realize that my child doesn't care for Math, so it will never be her favorite, I just need to find a different format for her. Anyone have any suggestions for something they've used? I'm willing to consider different avenues, such as a computer based Math program. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been unschooled for five years, and spent five years in public school before that.

When I look at my homeschooled friends, and then at my schooled friends, it seems like my school friends are sort of stupid in comparison. They often have more facts stocked in their heads, but they have no motivation, they can't really think critically and they're really peer-dependent compared to us homeschoolers.

And it seems like we're happier. I mean, we're human and we're teenagers so there's a degree of backstabbing, rumors, and so on but we just seem to be much better adjusted and less childish.

My school friends always need to move in packs and seem to be really obsessed with possessions and buying stuff.

They're still my friends and I like them, but I think homeschooling turns out better people in the end.
