Just the word Homeschooling?
I think books.
Lots and lots of wonderful books.
I love books.
Then I think:
research
children
learning
science experiments in the kitchen
math facts in chalk on the driveway
field trips
spelling words in the car
books (again)
knowing the librarians in three libraries by name
librarians in three libraries knowing me by name
overdue book fees
book fairs
being able to go to the museum, arboretum, park, zoo, suymphony, bakery, fire station, police station, radio station, major league sporting events, nature trails, and even walks through the neighborhood and having the freedom to consider it all a school day
being able to consider housekeeping, budgeting, meal planning and shopping as "home ec"
trying recipes from all fifty states in one year and it is "school work"
chess club
book clubs
youth group
service projects
swim parties
teacher's meetings
art classes

I'm sure there's more, but that's what pops in my head when I hear "homeschooling"

that their kids are too smart...To be able to home schooling them and no t to waist time at a school...So I don't see anything wrong with it homeschooling...If I can afford it I will done for my two kids but I have to work...And I will feel better that my son is getting better education and not expose to get hurt or etc a school from a bunch bullies that their parents don't have control of them...Yes some kids are been bullies to my son...And the school never done anything...So thats why I say Homeschool is a lot much better...
KIDS DO FOCUS MORE IN WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING when they are homeschool, THEN WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND THEM WHEN THEY ARE AT A SCHOOL...Too much to worry about it even teachers now are child molesters...So I say homeschool is always the best choice now this days....I was a home school and I did got a Master degree travel all over the world and I know so many wel 6 only languages I have uncontable friends so Is not truth about the negative side...

You guys will hate me, but...just because someone is homeschooled..that doesn't automatically mean they are smarter. I have met, very intelligent people everywhere. (yes, even public school)

I think of people who are trying to do the best they can for their kids. I do sometimes think of those parents that just want to control their kids...but you can't judge everyone by what you see on TV.

When I here "homeschooling" I think of my friends that are homeschooled...it's not really that big of a deal to me.

I think of all the ignorant people that don't understand "Homeschooling"

I get so annoyed when people think those that are/were home schooled are sheltered, weird, hermits, etc

I was "homeschooled" all the way through highschool. I'm now doing very well in college and have a good GPA.
My education was not lacking.

It was not a shock when I entered college and was around *gasp* people!

I consider myself mature, friendly, and social, just like all (well, some) of the "Normal" kids.

im actually homeschooled, and my parents and i do bathe everyday thank you (obviosly not all at the same time)
i have found it works really well for me, the school district i would go to sucks for multiple reasons, and when i was in 6th grade, my dad got severly sick to the point of dying and i ended up making myself sick because of the stress at home, getting beat up at school, and being worried about my dad while i was away. i have good reasons for being homeschooled, and mine is actually on the enternet, it is a thing called "ECOT" Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow and it functions the same as any othen school ,except the kids stay at home.
I also go to church groups 3-4 nights a week so i get socialization, and i get to spend a lot of time at home.

so if your opinion is something bad about homeschoolers, it would make me pretty offended because some people who are homeschooled have good reasons for it.

I think, cool, someone I can have a conversation with and ask what curriculum they use.
I especially like that most teachers I speak with are very supportive. Many say they plan to homeschool when they have kids.
I could list many examples of people in my life whose kids were homeschooled and are excelling in college and life, but it seems unnecessary given that more and more people are choosing that option. The only people who think your kids don't get enough socialization are those who are uninformed.

Well, I think of two different scenarios... I think of the parents who want to be involved with their kids and their educations, who prefer to be able to modify what is learned to suit their child best. Also, I think of people who prefer to control the influences that their child is around.

Then I think of crazy people who never bathe, use their children as home help for milling of wheat germ to process their own bread and who never enter a store..... Of course, I think that the only reason that people think this way is because how homeschooling is portrayed in the media..... How many "normal" homeschool situations have you seen on tv? I have never known anyone like those portrayed on tv. Unfortunately, I think that we get a bad reputation based on this.

That all being said, go ahead, think I'm crazy, not you specifically :) At least I'm doing what I believe to be best for my children and I know what they are and aren't doing. I also know what they are being told and who they are around.

I think of my last two years of high school (that I finished in 9 months, thanks to homeschooling). I think of the wonderful friends I made while homeschooling and all of the wonderful experiences I had. I think of the American School of Correspondence because that is the course I used. But, unfortunately, I also think of the ignorant people who refuse to believe that homeschoolers can be socialized, normal people.

My ears perk up so that I can find out if they're homeschooling or not. If they are, I think, "That's nice, another homeschooler." I think of the collective homeschoolers I know and the parents' dedication to a good upbringing for their kids.

What I *don't* think is that they're home all day, aren't developing social skills or nonsense like that.
