Huh? Taken for what?

The amount of time one allots for getting a PhD varies from person to person. Some people work full-time while working on their dissertations; for others, their doctoral pursuit is all-consuming. It really depends on what each candidate has going on in his or her life at the time.

I've seen it happen in a matter of a couple of years, but I've also seen it take a working mother more than ten years.
