I think it depends on what college the degree is from. I know it can take 5-6 years for psychology.

Huh? Taken for what?
The amount of time one allots for getting a PhD varies from person to person. Some people work full-time while working on their dissertations; for others, their doctoral pursuit is all-consuming. It really depends on what each candidate has going on in his or her life at the time.
I've seen it happen in a matter of a couple of years, but I've also seen it take a working mother more than ten years.

A bachelors in science takes 4 years.
A Ph D takes an additional 2-6 years depending on the field of study. I hope this helps.

it depends on the person and the program. If you only get funding for a certain amount of years, for instance, you better make damned sure you finish by then.
