I am a high school student and I have been considering what I want to major in during college. I have many options but the 3 that stand out the most are english arts, pyschology, and teaching. I was blown away by the number of books written about this book! And by how much I disagree with the "experts".

What do you think of the character? Do you think the death of his brother was more important to his problems than the brief mention of it would suggest?

And why would someone who grew up in NYC have to keep reading the subway map?

BTW, the "experts" apparently didn't realize that Holden's rich father (he was a corporate lawyer) would have him a private California sanitarium (like a spa), not mental hospital. They must not have watched any "B" movies from the 50's.

Great book, for being so short, there's an incredible about of discussion material in it. How did Salinger do it?
