Both involve dribbling, though in two different ways.
There are referees in both.
You need special shoes for both, but in soccer, you need cleats.
The scoring is the same (isn't it?)
One is played on a court, the other on a field.
Both use nets for the goals.
The names of many of the player positions are similar (such as Center).

You may not like my answer, however, this is my opinion and observations:
Somehow I associate basketball with inner city gangs, graffiti and hoodlums, people who are jobless because welfare is easier to get than to earn a salary.
On the other hand, soccer is a faster game where the players have to exercise more skills, plan their moves and work harder to attain their objectives. Soccer players do a lot more faster running whereas in basketball they do more jumping. Finally you must admit that worldwide, soccer draws tenfold more spectators than basketball for a very good reason. . .it is more interesting to watch.
