I'm taking all ap classes next year: bc calc, psych, lang, bio, spanish, world history...I got recommended for them but should I drop some because of the workload?

im takingap bio and world now. if you decide to take them, remember one thing, actually read the chapters, it was my biggest mistake not to. Im one of the smartest kids in the school and all of this work is already too much for me, six ap classes seems impossible. i think it would be best if you dropped some of them.

It's really up to you and what you want to push yourself too. I know if your school is anything like my school, AP classes require a lot of attention and work. They are very enduring and you have to keep yourself focused on the workload or its easy to fall behind.

However, AP classes can be wonderful. They are great on scholarship applications and for college applications.

It just depends on you and your own preference and determination.

At my school we only have a limited amount of AP classes, but the ones we have are the hardest classes in the whole school. I know if I had some that you mentioned I would've probably taken them. But you can also keep in mind, you don't have to take them all this year (junior year).

There's always senior year!

To be honest, I think your schedule is a bit ambitious. You seem like a solid student but 6 APs is a lot. I took AP physics and eng lang & comp classes this year along with the AP us exam (w/o taking the class) and just those alone were hard. actually, u.s. and eng are prob not going to be that strenuous depending on how your teacher prepares you for the exam (whether its with a lot of hw and at-home work or mostly in school essays and practice exams) but AP physics (which i see you're not taking anyway) is a bit harder since, at least for me, its a lot of self-study and learning on your own time at home with practice problems. junior year is also already hard due to sat, sat subject tests, and a few APs, and I personally think 6 might be a bit much. However, I have not taken AP stat, psych, or span lang so idk how those classes are, although they too are most likely challenging. ap calc BC ill be taking next yr (my senior yr) since im taking precalc now, but so you know AB is a bit slower pace-wise and is easier compared to BC in which you prob should already have taken precalc and must still remember most of what was learned since you learn more in-depth and build on precalc. ap u.s. is u.s. history but more in depth details and a dbq (45 mins) and two thematic essays (35 mins each) on the AP. there are also tough (at least on this yrs exam which i just took fri) multiple choice q's (55 mins). AP lang is writing about writing -- you analyze a short piece talking about the techniques the author used and how effective he/she was. there are a total of three essays you must write on the AP (recommended time of 40 mins for each essay). theres also a multiple choice part thats a little tough too on the exam (1 hr for that). if youre worried about wanting to look good for college, youve already taken an ap in 10th grade which is great and if you get a 4 or 5 even in just a few APs in junior yr, its better than overstretching yourself and then getting 2s or 3s on those. ultimately its up to you of course, and since i dont know exactly your work ethic and personality and such i cant decide for you. however, it is my recommendation that you trim out at least 1 or 2 of those AP classes and go with honors or even an elective to ease the workload. but i applaud your ambition and desire to do the most you can! good luck whatever you decide!

Is this for high school? I took AP classes for three years. I think you would be ok as long as you do not have many extracurricular activities going on. However, taking AP classes can be stressfull but also realize that your GPA in those courses are ranked on a higher scale ( at least mine were ranked on a 6.0 scale and it definitely boosted my GPA). Also, if you do well in those classes, you could take the exams and earn college credit.
Well good luck to you

that's a lot of classwork, but you know better than anyone whether you can handle it. you can just take the classes and get the GPA boost (assuming your school offers it) but not take all the AP exams in the spring if you feel you'll do better by taking fewer of them. i took 4 AP classes one year in high school but skipped one of the exams because i didn't feel prepared to pass it.

the AP classes were a very good preparation for college, though. some of the AP classes at my HS were more difficult than the introductory college classes i took, which made me feel more confident when i was starting college. it was definitely worth the experience, and it helped me start off in college with sophomore status.

good luck!

WOW. that's an ambitious load. even in college, most people dont take 6 classes at once. try it. if it's too much, there's no harm in dropping one or two. and if you're going to be a Jr. that means you still have another year to do some more, right? and i agree with the person who said to have time to relax. you dont want to get burned out so young!! :)

Personally I would not take more than 5 of any mix of classes (unless you dont work). Dont forget you need time to relax.

Only if its too much work for U! but if not, go for it and keep on going for them. a lot of top colleges look at that!
