It's a college course on business communication in regards to inclusive language/making language nonsexist, nonracist, nonagist, and quoting from biased sources...Here are the few I need help with...
1. The minister joined the couple together as man and wife. (I said no change on this one, what do you think?)
2. It's hard to believe that a woman her age could accomplish so much. (I have no idea how to change this one, but it's defienetly agist.)
3. The law from the 1800s mandated that men could buy alcohol and cigarettes only from a state store. (I put no change on this one as well, but it is under the category of quoting biased sources)
4. The employee guide indicated that men could add their spouses to their health care plan. ( I put: The employee guide indicated that "Men [sic] could add their spouses to their health care plan." (I have no idea if that is right either!) Please help...Assignment due tomorrow! Thanks...PS: I got all the other's with no problems at all!

Well, If you do, please respond. I am trying to get a outlook on my future and trying to decide a college I'd like to go to. There are so many and I just don't know which ones are good. I'd like to major in Elementary Education or work somewhere in a business. *I'm good with computers and things like that* I just don't know...so to conclude..if you go to one near here...Could you just tell me about it some maybe. I don't want it to cost too much, but still want to get the right amount of education out of it. So if you could just say what it is and some info, that would be great. Thanks!

How do I tell gender from Indian first names?
Are there any basic rules?
What I have deduced so far:
Names ending in 'a' are (almost?) always female.
Names ending in 'i' are usually, but not always, male.
Names ending in 'd',p','v' are usually male.

I'm looking for some compact basic rules, rather than an encyclopaedic list, which I could find for myself.

Brazil mudslides kill at least 24
POSTED: 10:24 p.m. EST, January 5, 2007
Adjust font size:
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) -- At least 24 people died in mudslides and more than 8,300 were left homeless this week following heavy rain in southeast Brazil, with the death toll likely to rise as the hunt for bodies goes on, the Civil Defense said on Friday.

Most of the deaths occurred in Rio de Janeiro state when shacks built illegally on steep slopes surrounding mountainous towns were swept away.

"The number of victims could rise further. The Civil Defense is still on alert and we're still searching for missing people," said Cpl. Leonardo Franco at Civil Defense.

Marcos Sanches from the National Space Research Climate Studies Center said that in the first five days of January the Mantiqueira mountains near Rio de Janeiro received half the usual average monthly rainfall, and further rains were likely this weekend.

Wet weather, if prolonged, could discourage visitors to the annual Carnival in Rio de Janeiro in February but tourist bookings there have not been affected yet by the rains.

Mudslides killed 16 Brazilians in Petropolis, an historic mountain resort near Rio, in January 2003. In December 2001, 52 people died in mudslides in Rio de Janeiro state.

Since October, the heavy rains have killed at least 17 people in neighboring Minas Gerais, one of Brazil's biggest mining and agricultural states.

At least two people have died in Sao Paulo, Brazil's main industrial state which lies just southwest of Rio de Janeiro.
