you're so focused on the reading, that that's all you think about. if what you're reading is boring, your mind will drift, so that's why some people do bad in literature at school.i've always wondered that myself,too. i'm a very deep thinker and even my mind quiets when i'm reading!

Because when you read silently the part that doing the reading is your mind so you will hear the word that your eyes looking at going around in your mind. i hope that help.

It may be because the book is boring or too slow. Or if your thinking about the book you really like it and are picturing it in you mind.

IT'S NORMAL WE ALL DO IT. HOWEVER, WHEN I TOOK A SPEED READING CLASS IN COLLEGE, THEY TAUGHT US TO LOOK AT THE WORDS BUT NOT SAY THEM IN OUR HEADS. YOUR MIND THINKS THE WORDS FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY THEM TO YOURSELF. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE MIND RESISTS THIS TECHNIQUE, BUT WHEN YOU GOT IT DOWN, YOU GOT IT.

it is not myself that I hear it is the voices in my head telling me that I am reading.... shh don't tell no one else.... I am looking for the precious and master will be mad.
