I can explain the concept...don't know what else to do without more specifics.

Basically, absolute values are like regular numbers except there are no positive or negative values. They simply measure the distance of a number from zero on the number line.

-4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4

-4 and 4 both have an absolute value of 4 because they are both four spaces away from zero on the number line. similarly, |4| (absolute value 4) could be either -4 or 4, because those are the only two numbers four spaces away from zero on the number line.

Hope that helps some.

Umm.. be a little specific?

when doing absolute values in algebra, you will end up with 2 answers.

For example
1. ly-2l=4
you need to make 2 equations.
y-2=4
y-2= -4
because in absolute value |4|=4 AND |-4|=4
so y=6, -2
(im not sure if that's the way you write out the answer but you get the point)

i think in the inequalities you have to switch the inequality around(greater than changing to less than.. or vice versa) when using the second inequality(like when i changed the 4 to -4) but im not sure.

Absolute value is the distance from zero. So absolute value of -4 is 4, because on a number line -4 is four away from zero. In other words, absolute values make negatives positive.

What's the emergency, and where is the question? ;-)

Seriously though, absolute values aren't scary. Just think of them as "how far the values are from zero". There are no negatives, only positive values for an absolute.

So the absolute value of +100, is 100.
The absolute value of -6 is 6.
The absolute value of -800 is 800

They are usually closed in a vertical symbol. IF you saw |86| it would just mean the absolute value of 86, which would be 86.
If you saw |-67| it would be the absolute value of -67, which would just be 67.
etc etc.

The absolute value is how numbers somehting is from zero.
Here are some examples:
23=23
47=47
-17=17
-17484736=-17484736

Make any sense whatsoever?

an abosolute value is a # disregarding the sign so for example the abosolute value of a negative # would be positive -9 A/V is 9 and the A/V of 9 is 9 so just remeber the # will always be positive regardless of the sign

If I remember, the absolute value of a number is that number without regard to positive or negative.

/-54/ = 54 you just take the number in the 2 lines and take away the negative
