In 1950 the Scout handbook described proper half=staff display of the U.S. Flag as a flag's distance from the top of the pole. I see that no flags are displayed this way in 2007. The present U.S. Flag code describes 1/2 staff as halfway down the pole. What changed, and who did it?

An English teacher at my school was recently suspended when a tenth grade student chose to read a book the used profanity and included sexual references. The teacher physically handed the book to the student at the teacher's request, but the teacher did not force the student to read it. Students were able to choose any book they wished to read. The teacher also told the student that he was responsible for making sure it was ok with his parents. The parents complained and the teacher was suspended. Can the school do this? I could understand if the teacher was forcing the student to read it, or if she wouldn't let the student change books. But, it was the student's decision.

Someone told me that they went to a particular university, but when I called the university to ask about it; they said that there was never anyone by that name that ever attended there. Now I don't know what to think. I suspected that he might be lying. He could still swear that he went there, but I don't know what to believe.

I was having trouble with my coursework, so I used the internet to find information regarding my topic, when I stumbled across a perfect specimen for the same experiment my coursework was about. I realised that in my own I had did not know to include various calculations (and other minor information) or how do them but this specimen did. I used it as guidance for my own explaining the calculations (how and why i did them) in my own words ect. Im feeling a little guilty as to whether this is cheating. If it was not for this specimen i would not have known to have included certain calculations which undoubtabtly raise my mark.
However I did reference it, and explain what I was doing in my words (and I do actually understand these said calculations)

I work with a lot of kids whose home life is less desireable, I care a great deal about that. I want them to learn as much as they can so they have a better life. For everyone who said, just teach them in school, you have no control over their life at home. But, that is like throwing them into a lions den and saying good luck.

I'm number 28 in my class of about 350..maybe--lets say 300, and my GPA is about a 3.6, it will most likely be a 3.7 or 3.8 at the end of this school year. I just want to know right now how hard it is to get into Rice because I know the deadline for applications are coming up like in a week--less than a week actually. I just want to know my chances of getting in. Oh, and I'm going to be taking my SAT in about 2 or 3 weeks.. Please, I really want to get in this school, but I would also like to know my chances of getting in.

I have been thinking about becoming a lawyer in the business world for years now. (I earned my undergrad degree in management about 3 years ago & have been working in the business world.)

What I want to know from CURRENT PRACTICING LAWYERS in BUSINESS is this:

- What should I expect after graduation? (i.e., job offers or lack thereof)

- How did you personally obtain your position?

- What are the different job options available with a concentration on business?

- What is your scope on the future job market for this field?

And finally:
- If I'm planning an 08 entry, any tips on what to be doing in the next year? (Meaning: community service somewhere specific or taking certain courses?)

Do they have better chances if they are enrolled in private schools? Do you have any books I can read about the matter?

He has a bachelor's in Education and has been a kindergarten teacher for 9 yrs. He wants to teach early childhood education part time at a community college in the evenings, could he use his years teaching as work experience? Is there anything he can do to get around having to get a masters right away?
And if he has to get a masters for this, could anyone estimate roughly how much that would cost? I know each college is different. Has anyone been through something similar to this? Thanks for any help.

The kids can cut pretty good and they love to paint and color. So any sort of project that has something to do with Diamonds (the shape) would be wonderful.
Thanks.

I am a high school senior and i applied to several colleges and have not yet heard back from them all. For my applications, I put an undeclared major. My interests include math (algebra + calculus, numbers, problem solving, analysis), social science (psychology, economics), business (management, finance), and computers (technology, internet, design, networking, some programming). My disinterests include history, science & engineering, geometry & trigonometry, biology & anatomy, etc. I want to do a business major. I was looking into computer science and electrical engineering, but I don't really like science & engineering -- I just like math and computers. I want a major that uses a decent amount of numbers but also uses a good amount of computer/technology (IT) in it. My 2 main interests are BUSINESS and TECHNOLOGY. I plan to go to school for at least 4 yrs, possibly more. I want something that will leave me with an office-type job. Some schools I applied to are OSU, ASU, PSU, and UVA.

we just got our scores back, and i got:

critical reading - 74
math - 80
writing - 75

is this good enough to be a national merit finalist or scholar? how good/bad is this in comparison to you or any of your friends?

if any of you have been through the whole national merit thing - what are my chances of making it all the way through?

any input is greatly appreciated :)

and by the way - i asked this question earlier and everyone answered as if the scores i gave above were percentiles or as if they were my scores on the SAT. they are not. these are just the numeric scores i received on the PSAT.

also, my score report said i was in the 99th percentile for all 3 subjects?

thanks for your time!
