Subtract cosx from both sides. Remember when cos is 1 or -1, sin is 0 and vice versa.

Write sin x = √(1 - cos²x)
Then (1+cos x)² = 1-cos²x
Multiplying out and simplifying,
2cos²x + 2cos x = 0.
cos x(cos x + 1) = 0.
So cos x = 0, x = π/2
or cos x = -1, x = π.
Hope that helps!
