Is a 229 on the PSAT good enough?

Question

we just got our scores back, and i got:

critical reading - 74
math - 80
writing - 75

is this good enough to be a national merit finalist or scholar? how good/bad is this in comparison to you or any of your friends?

if any of you have been through the whole national merit thing - what are my chances of making it all the way through?

any input is greatly appreciated :)

and by the way - i asked this question earlier and everyone answered as if the scores i gave above were percentiles or as if they were my scores on the SAT. they are not. these are just the numeric scores i received on the PSAT.

also, my score report said i was in the 99th percentile for all 3 subjects?

Wether or not you become a finalist should depend on your state, though your score is a commendable effeort regardless. You scored higher than more than 99 percent of individuals your age. You should be proud of such an achievement; best of luck with your coming SATs.

Well, you did score 100% on the math and your other two seems pretty high too. You do look quite competitive as an applicant.

If you are a junior, then yes you would definitely be good enough for the national merit thing. I don't know how well you'll do against the kids that scored 80 on all 3 subject though.

On a side note, they're pretty late in giving it back this year. I still haven't gotten my results back...

sure it truly is unquestionably solid adequate. i do not recognize what state you're from, yet i doubt any state will choose more desirable than a 225 to get to be a semifinalist. for ca, that's prolly round a 217. to be a finalist, you'll hafta fill out an app w/ an essay and stuff. you receives those products when you're regarded as a semifinalist. yeah um ok. so i have been given a 238, the subsequent 2 closest at my college were 232 and 230. yet you basically choose like a 217 to get to be semif. when you're recog-ed as semif, you receives the app (next year) and fill it out, and then after that they are going to allow you to recognize even if you'd be a finalist or not. i'm exceptionally particular you'd be, b/c they basically reduce one thousand out of 16000 semifinalists. yup so i imagine you've large possibilities. the technique takes continuously, tho, so that you've a lot of waiting to do lol.
