My university had a study abroad office with tons of information, brochures, and advisors. I just had to tell them what kind of program I was interested in and where and they gave me all my options and even helped with financial aids and scholarships.
If you are younger, there are also many programs. Talk with your guidance counselor at school. One good program for hight school students is Youth for Understanding. http://www.yfu.org/

You need to check out the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students at www.csfes.org first. Would you go live with a strange family in the next town? How about the next state? No criminal checks of host families in foreign countries are done. Read about students who have had their laptops, money and other things stolen. BIG BIG PROBLEM - pedophiles hide cameras to videotape exchange students and sell the movies on the internet. Ignore this advice and you may be allright but if it goes bad on you then save the telephone of the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students. Check out how much money these companies make - $12 million, $8 million. Go to Guidestar.org, it is free then go to advance search then put in the name of the placement agency and then scroll down to the 990s (Internal Revenue Service form 990) and check out who owns the company and what they do with the money. If you are offered a free scholarship. watc our because you could lose a year of school if you come back because of a bad situation. Not trying to scare you, just give you information so you know exactly what can happen. College is better time to be exchange student. Those programs are run well with the college. Don't get fooled by the happy videos and pictures they will show you.

if u are in school, and if u are taking a language in schoool, then the teacher whoever teaches that language, lets u sign up to be an exchange student....sometime in ur like fourth year...........
it is usually if the school's expense can support it i think..
but since there are going to be a lot of people signing up for it, not everybody can be selected, so it's like a lottery..except more than five or six people get selected..way more..
i hope this helped.....

Contact the Rotary Club in your area. They often sponsor exchange students.

I know at the Junior college and the University I went to offered study abroad programs. I believe they are the same thing. You go for a semester, sometimes longer. Check with your school...thats the best/safest place to check.
