Do you prefer splitting the check ( evenly) at restaurants when you dine with family or friends?
Or do you think that seperate checks work out better? If so, is it ok, or does it seem tacky to ask before ordering, if the server can put it on seperate checks?
Sometimes you might order something small, for a few bucks, and other parties might have the most expensive thing on the menu...so, if splitting evenly, how do you feel about this?
I understand that "treating" another person to dinner, etc. falls into a different situation. So my question is generally speaking; for example, lunch with friends.

I've tried Straits Cafe, Penang Garden, Banana Leaf, and Red Kwali and a few defunct ones, but none have been satisfactory to me. I'm looking for something at least as good as "Penang" of New York Chinatown; heard they've opened a Penang in So.Cal but not in the Bay. Has anyone else come across a good one around here?

You are in a restaurant and the waitress/waiter is bringing your your food. They set the plate down RIGHT in front of your child in a high chair--as in under 2 years old. You move it immediately and they put the next one RIGHT down in front of the child again. There is plenty of room on the table to place things out of reach of the child (or like some, ask who had what and place it appropriately). WHY OH WHY TO DO PEOPLE DO THIS? Are they morons? Do they want your child to get burned and sue the restaurant? AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! *frustrated mom here*

what else would you recommend that is similar to these? besides oatmeal. the reason wny i am asking is because there are so many interesting foods in this world that maybe you know about and i do not.

for example, i went to this restaurant last week and ordered roast duck with a cassis sauce. it came with a side of something that was similar to mashed potatoes and grits, yet it was neither.... the waitress just told me that there was cornmeal in it. and that was all she would tell me!! i really wanna know what it was!!! it was just so darn deelicious!!
