Late last night (naturally), my battery-powered smoke detector started beeping. I got up at 3 a.m. and removed the battery so I could get some sleep, but the thing kept beeping! This makes no sense to me and has been bugging me all day. I'm going to replace the battery tonight so I can sleep, but why would it keep beeping when I had removed the power source?

I need an article from an old EDN Magazine, the article's title is "Programmable ROMs Offer a Digital Approach to Waveform Synthesis". It was in the 1st of August issue of 1972, p. 38 - 41. Internet has become indispensable nowadays but we can't take our PCs or laptops everywhere. So, there should be a small electronic device by means of which we can access internet. I understand such type of electronic instruments exist.

Could you suggest an electronic device on which I can access internet without connecting my mobile to it?

It will be great if I could have mobile phone functions on it also. Thanks

A local bar, 100 metres, pumps out music which is so loud that it is a nuisance. Here in rural Spain nobody in any authority will do anything about it. Ideally I would like to cancel out the noise by using 'white noise', alternatively I am looking to create audio feedback into the loudspeakers so that those producing the noise will listen to reasonable argument about noise levels.

I currently have a GlobalSat BT-338. It's great, but I need to carry a separate device around with me to log the data. I'd like a device that can log internally, I'd like it to be cheap, have a long battery life and having bluetooth would be nice so I can still use it with my PocketPC when I want. I've seen the RoyalTek RBT-3000 and the BTS-110 from StarsNav, and I'm sure there are others.

I have very little idea about the different models - I'll 90% of the time be using it just to tag photos - the less input required by me the better.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Every component that I need in the frequency counter project I found in the net is available in the market (I live in Manila, Philippines) except for

As a fan of overnight radio programs such as coasttocoastam.com, my area is troubled by local radio interference which sounds like men using walkie-talkies, or whatever, to wake each other up for a middle-of-the-night work shift. At least that's my best guess. One typical call goes like this: "Wake up, old man! Wake up, old man!" This is often repeated almost endlessly for an hour or two before someone answers him. What kind of equipment could they be using to cause this kind of interference, and can the FCC help? This has been going on now for at least six months.
