How |can I make my computer go faster?

Ok here's the problemo: I wiped my hard drive and restored all the original factory software. A couple days later I left my eMachines T2895 on overnight and when I saw it the next morning it said:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
So I downloaded a copy of this file to my laptop and burned it to a disk. Then I entered command prompt through the Restore CD (the one I used a few days before) and tried to copy this file from the CD to the hard drive (on the problem computer). I got the error message "Invalid drive specification." and was unsuccessful. Then I rebooted again and an odd clicking sound emitted from my computer during Memory Testing. After this the computer did nothing. It went to a blank screen with a little underscore blinking in the top left corner. Do you think my hard drive is broken? It's a 120 GB Ultra DMA, and I bought it in June of 2005.

Say a computer is suddenly quiet for some reason( virus, hard errors, long life) . Do I lose all data? ok I read that the data is not entirely lost but ... The question is : shall I save my important data on cd-s to be safe?

my friend wants to burn me a dvd disc, but we can't figure out what type of dvd it takes. the stickers on the laptop (a two-year-old Compaq Presario V4000) haven't been removed, but they don't tell us anything about the dvd types that can be read by the drive. can someone PLEASE help me out?

when I click on 'burn CD', my Window's Media Player gives a notice that says 'Interface not registered', and then says 'You've encountered error message 80040155 while using Windows Media Player. Okay. I've got an eMachines T2895 and it's all of a sudden gotten really screwed up. Recently I cleared the hard drive and re-installed my operating system through the restore disks that came with my computer. Then, a couple days after that, I left my computer on overnight. When I woke up the next morning, the screen said:

So I asked a question about that and tried some of that stuff out. I do NOT have an OS Install disk, all I have are restore disks that I think are Norton Ghost. So after i tried some of this stuff, a couple reboots later, my computer is even worse! When I turn it on, it makes a bunch of really weird clicking noises. It's the same clicking noise my computer makes when I shut it down, but this clicks like 20 times! And then my computer won't do anything. It just sits there with a little blinking light in the...

I had a folder for the pictures to go into (new folder) but they did not go in it. I must of lifed my finger during the draging of putting them in it. I don't have them on my camera anymore, I need to find those pictuces. Dose anyone have any idea where they have gone on my computer. The pictures did not have any name I think they just had numbers, so I don't know how to search for them. Anyone has any ideas please answer.

I recieved a bunch of E-mails asking me to open a bank account in my name form another country the split would be 40% of the millions of dollars. I never answered any of them, but now someone has done it without my permission. But it is in my name but Idon't know the Acct#. Here is the story the person works at a bank someone who has money in that bank has died with no relatives, so the banker wants to get the money before the Government does, I don't know if these are terrorists the have a middle eastern name. Well I never answered these E-mails case I thought it was a scam. Evidently it wasn't casue they managed to open a acct. in my name. I got E-mail from Washington Mutual welcoming me to their bank. well the problem is should I report this to the FBI or try to get the money out , and if I did I would need help cause I'm not good at lyeing or talking . I been getting these E-mails asking me to open a bank account in my name from bankers from another country. They talk about how the person died and that there is millions of dollars in the bank which if no on one claims it the Government will get it. They say they will give me 40% of the income. I never answer the E-mails cause I thought it was a scam. But now they actually opened a bank account in my name with millions of dollars in it. i know cause I got a e-mail from Wasington Mutual bank welcoming me . Also I got a E-Mail from Chase Man. but they knew it was not me, so they went to Washington Mutual and they did it. I also got a letter from a passport agency, telling me there is a problem with my passport. I wrote them back and told them it wasn't me, the told me to report it to the police, and show them the report.
