Okay. I've got an eMachines T2895 and it's all of a sudden gotten really screwed up. Recently I cleared the hard drive and re-installed my operating system through the restore disks that came with my computer. Then, a couple days after that, I left my computer on overnight. When I woke up the next morning, the screen said:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
So I asked a question about that and tried some of that stuff out. I do NOT have an OS Install disk, all I have are restore disks that I think are Norton Ghost. So after i tried some of this stuff, a couple reboots later, my computer is even worse! When I turn it on, it makes a bunch of really weird clicking noises. It's the same clicking noise my computer makes when I shut it down, but this clicks like 20 times! And then my computer won't do anything. It just sits there with a little blinking light in the...

Reformat the hard-drive... then try the restore disk.
Most E-machines depend on the use of a "D" partion. You may have to quick restore THAT first.
Why not call E-Machines support?
By the way "HAL" stands for Harware Accession Layer"
and it's the routine that does device enuneration. Sounds like your RESTORE DISK might not be for the same hardware as you think.

Easy my friend…
But you need an OS installation disk.
Partition your hard drive in two pieces, format the one with no data, install a fresh copy of windows (not that restore crap) get all the stuff you need form the old OS.
Then format the old OS, install and enjoy. Only use one OS for internet, cause its gonna get viruses.
If you cant boot your system then put your drive in to another pc and do this operation from there.
you can do it your self no professional needed, u just have to format.. this doesent sound like an HD problem. the HD doesent make that shut down noise.

Write that message on a piece of paper and find a computer with internet access. Go to microsoft.com, do a search for errors with that file name, and it will give you a step by step method to re-install that particular file. You will need to print the directions given, a floppy disc, and possibly a copy of your OS disc (not the restore discs) to enter the repair console.
If you have a program like Alcohol 110% on the computer get rid of it. Older versions of the program have had .dll files that conflict and/or remove certain windows .dll files which are needed to run WIndows xp. I've had that happen once or twice to my computer.
Hope this helps.
A clicking noise could be indicative of a hard drive failure. If the computer is under warranty, get it looked at by a service tech.

Sounds to me like the hard drive is simply taking a dump! They dont last forever and usually the noise you are explaining is the hard drive stylus trying to find the info it needs to start your system. You can verify this by removing the cover and bending an ear toward the drive. Some people will tell you a hard drive lasts forever. They are full of it! A hard drive uses a medium not unlike a cassette tape. Its called iron oxide or in laymens terms, RUST! Replace the hard drive and try your system restore disk.

Hate to tell you this but those clicking noises are coming from your hard drive. It is shot. I don't know if it is corrupted by a boot sector virus or it just got tired. Either way, you need a new one. Go to your local WalMart, or Fry's or whatever big box store you have near you that sells electronics. It will be cheaper that way. You can get a really big hard drive for a pretty good price. Your e-machine probably uses IDE but check to make sure before you buy.

Unfortunately, emachines are good computers, but only for a couple of years...I would suggest borrowing a friends' copy of windows to install on your computer. This should fix the problem. Otherwise, you would have to buy Windows and install it. Either way, it should fix your problem because you're missing some startup files. Hope this helps.

Sounds like corrupted install...probably from leaving it on all night connected to the internet without doing Microsoft Updates
You have to remove the install that on there with Ranish Partition Manager ..here:http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,6170;order,1;page,1;c,All%20Downloads/description.html
If you need a boot diskette download one here
http://www.bootdisk.com
Then try to download 7510801.exe from here:
http://members.cox.net/millapp/write_zeros.htm
It will write zero's to the complete drive and boot sector and may fix the clicking noise - if it doesn't you may have a bad hard drive
you may need the basic boot disk like for Bios flashing for this and available from bootdisk.com.
after doing these things try to reinstall your restore disks making sure that the computer is set to boot from cd in the bios
After it completes the restore make sure that you have done all the Microsoft updates until it asays that you have no more.
Don't go on the internet without virus protection
Here is the drivers link for you computer:
http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T2895
If you cannot do any of these tasks you may need a tech

Try going into dos mode. You can fix things that way alot of times. Most people forget about dos. Our computer gave us the blue screen we know the hard drive is going out. We went into dos and redone things and now its running again i am sure on borrowed time so we will put in a new hard drive. Buy one with a warranty of 3 years or more.

yah, the hddrive making noises...... not good. try a new drive. and then install the entire cd set for e-machines. if you have data you MUST have back, get 'spin rite' from grc.com #1 data recovery appl. and very reasonable (under 70$ u.s.) so don't throw away that old drive just yet

yes hold F8 when the comp is booting up and then try safe mode. If that doesn't work then try the other options from that screen.
