To check whether it is just the button that is broken try ejecting it using software. In windows explorer right click on the drive and choose eject. If it still fails and it is making a noise, it is probably either broken or has a cd jammed in it (something possible on some). You could try using a paper clip to push it open. Turn the PC off, straighten the clip and push it into the small hole on the face of the CD. It should cause the CD tray to open.

That's a common malfunction. Try keeping it depressed for 3-5 seconds. If it still doesn't open, you may try to eject the CD/DVD directly from My Computer. Once there click on the appropriate drive and choose Eject from the left menu.

Well, i had the same thing on my Laptop....
it turned out to be jammed, but i fixed it my self
Here is what i did:
- Shutdown your computer
- Unplug the elec.
- bring a pin or something else that is reall small
- press the small button on the cd drive (Emergency eject)
After it opens, take out the CD inside, clean the edges of the cd holder (maybe dust) and start your computer and then close the cd drive....
it worked for me...
Try it and let me know how it goes

SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS JUST TO LAZY TO RETYPE IT ALL! FIRST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER TO THE CD DRIVE CHECK ALL THE WIRES. IF YOU HAVE POWER THEN KNOW THAT A CD DRIVE WILL DO THAT SOONER OR LATER. YOUR CD WILL BE STUCK THERE AND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU PRESS THAT EJECT BUTTON, THE LIGHT WILL JUST CONTINUE FLASHING ,AND AT THE MOST, THE DRIVE WILL JUST LIGHTLY BE HEARD MAKING AN UNMOTIVATED EXHERTION SOUND,RIGHT? WELL, MOST WEBSITES WILL TELL YOU TO GET THE OLE PAPERCLIP, STRAIGHTEN IT, HOOK ONE END AND MANUALLY TRY TO DRAG THAT DRIVE PLATE OUT. THAT SOMETIMES WORKS. USUALLY, AFTER RANDOM REBOOTS, ONE DAY, YOUR CD WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN OPEN UP AGAIN, AS IF IT WAS IN A STATE OF SLEEP. I USED TO DRAG IT OUT MANUALLY, THEN MANUALLY PUSH IT SLOWLY IN AND OUT, TO GET THEM GEARS ROLLIN'. BUT FROM WHAT I'VE LEARNED, THE GEARS DRY UP. YES, DURING MANUFACTURING, THE COMPANIES LUBE THEM PLASTIC GEARS AND BANDS. BUT YOUR COMPUTER'S HEAT DRIES THEM UP, EVENTUALLY. THAT PUTS ESHERSION FORCE ON THEM GEARS. ONCE YOU MANAGE TO MANUALLY PULL THE TRAY OUT, GET SOME WD-40 ON A Q-TIP. REALLY GET IT ON THAT, AND NOT JUST THE FUMES. OR GET SOME LUBRICATING OIL. I'VE EVEN GONE FOR THE OLE CRISCO CAN, YOU KNOW? THEM GEARS GOT MORE CHOLESTEROL THAN DICK CHENEY. ANYWAY, IF YOU USE WD-40, HOLD THE PLATE AND GET THAT Q-TIP IN THE BAND AND GEARS. HOLD THE Q-TIP AND SLOWLY MAKE LIKE YOU'RE LETTING THE PLATE MOVE BACK IN, JUST TO ASSURE YOU LUBE UP MOST OF THE GEARS'S TEETH, AND THE RUBBERBAND. IF USE WD-40, ALLOW THE OIL TO 'DRY' A LITTLE BEFORE USING COMPUTER- JUST FOR SAFETY. WHEN GEARS ALL LUBED UP, LET PLATE SLIP BACK INTO THE DRIVE. (MAKE SURE YOU OILED UP THE BOTTOM OF THE PLATE TOO, WHERE THE TRACK OF TEETH ARE TOO). NOW, IF POSSIBLE, LET THAT PLATE STAY IN THERE A WHILE. TURN SYSTEM OFF. MIGHT WANT TO GO WATCH SOME CNN NEWS OR SAVED BY THE BELL. LATER, COME BACK AND START THE SYSTEM. MORE THAN LIKELY, YOUR CD DRIVE WILL NOW WORK AS IT USED TO. BUT IF IT DOESN'T, AT LEAST YOU KNOW IT'S NOT CUZ THE GEARS ARE DRY. I ASSURE YOU THAT IF IT DOESN'T OPEN THEN, SOONER OR LATER IT WILL. ALSO, SOMETIMES IT WORKS WHEN YOU REBOOT THE SYSTEM B/C YOUR COMPUTER FAILS TO LOAD UP THE NECESSARY DRIVES TO OPEN THE CD DOOR, AND IT NEEDS TO BE REBOOTED AGAIN. I AIN'T NO COMPUTER GENIUS BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU I'VE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM DOZENS OF TIMES DURING THE YEARS, AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO GO OUT AND BUY ANOTHER CD DRIVE. BEST OF LUCK AND...DON'T GO THINKING YOU NEED TO BUY ANOTHER CD DRIVE. FIRST TRY WHATEVER YOU CAN WITH THIS OLD ONE.

Typically if the CD is still playing its not going to open, but if its still not opening the disk maybe jamed, this happens to me in my car and I carefully force it open and pull the cd out and listen to the radio for a couple of mins, and retry it
Best of luck

There should be a hole in the drive door. Take a paperclip and place in the hole and gently find the gear or lever that opens the door. Once you have it out shut down your computer and restart. Test the drive door by opening and closing it empty to make sure that it has reset itself before placing a dvd in it again.

My cd drive on my computer does that and I wiggle the wiring connector plug and it starts to work again. Try the old WHACK it hard routine, then take it to a repair shop.

Stupid software problems; I've had the same thing happen. You can always push a paper clip into the tiny little hole and it will force the door open.

1. Check the internal connections. Should be a ribbon cable and a power cable.
2. re-install the software
