Ok here's the problemo: I wiped my hard drive and restored all the original factory software. A couple days later I left my eMachines T2895 on overnight and when I saw it the next morning it said:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
So I downloaded a copy of this file to my laptop and burned it to a disk. Then I entered command prompt through the Restore CD (the one I used a few days before) and tried to copy this file from the CD to the hard drive (on the problem computer). I got the error message "Invalid drive specification." and was unsuccessful. Then I rebooted again and an odd clicking sound emitted from my computer during Memory Testing. After this the computer did nothing. It went to a blank screen with a little underscore blinking in the top left corner. Do you think my hard drive is broken? It's a 120 GB Ultra DMA, and I bought it in June of 2005.

Sounds like a bad hard drive to me, but I don't know for sure as I am not there to find out. Connect the drive to another computer via USB if possible and see if it works there, if so then no, it isnt bad. Also, for the record, you cannot download just any hal.dll file and place it on your harddrive for Windows. The hal.dll is the hardware list that is specific to your computer and if you just download one and put it on your machine it will be someone elses hardware list and Windows will think you changed your hardware and not run.

Most hard drives have a 3 year warranty, if it is bad, it should be replaced by the manufacturer unless you bought refurbished.

It's not broken, but it's confused. You're hard drive seems pretty in-accessible right now, so you're probably going to have to fix it by using a different hard drive. You can do this by adding a hard drive to your computer that has an OS on it, either by installing one in your computer, using and IDE to USB cable, or using an external HD which has an OS on it. after you do that, go to your BIOS settings and select that drive as the primary drive (also remember to set the jumpers to Master). you'll start up from that HD, and you can fix the problem from there.

The disk is either effictive or it needs a new hard drive. Did it sound like something cracking in it, it would be the hard drive if it sounds like it is breaking.
