Internet - December 2006

If I have a device/modem in my laptop that allows me to pick up nearby broadband connections that aren't password protected, is it wrong of me to make use of them, giving that I'm not paying for it? And can the owner of the connection tell that I'm using it, and what sites I'm browsing?

Some anti-spyware program maybe blocking me from getting through to a site that I need because they are routing the link thru linksynergy. I have checked and it is not IE that is blocking this. Where or what other hosts files would block this? Thanks in advance.

I ordered Fast access Internet online and the company says it will give free modem. After one month I receive a letter saying that I am not qualified for the free modem. When I call and argue, they told they are processing my request. What kind of game is it? Are they doing it to every customer like this? I don't understand.

OMG By DEFAULT they had the menu bar disabled!!! and then when i turn it on it's BELOW the address/ back-forward refresh stop buttons!! I know it sounds silly but this is just really bothering me, I am OCD. I want the menu bar on top please. Is there anyway?? I cannot find a way, I think I have to switch back to IE6.

I will spend a lot of time in Africa in the next 2 years, and in order to get Internet access there I plan to sign up for satellite Internet access through BGAN / Inmarsat. They charge per megabyte of traffic, and the prices are steep -- around $6 per megabyte. What can I do on my side to minimize the traffic to save on the cost? For example, how do I specify to load Internet pages in text mode only and skip the graphics? Any other suggestions on traffic minimization will be very appreciated! I intend to use Internet for browsing around and reading news, doing research, trading stocks, getting my email, etc.
