I see someone already recommended spybot, an excellent product. I use it in conjunction with Ad-Aware, another excellent product, download the free version. They use different approaches, thus are very effective together,

Go to the site www.downloads.com and do a search on "spyware". You'll see several products listed, and you can adjust the filters to show only free products. Best of all, each one is rated by users (like us).
No one product removes everything, so you will want to use a couple of them. If you have a virus, I recommend AVG Antivirus.
