On the second or third screen after i turn the computer on, i get an error that says: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\syste... ". It will not go past that screen. I tried putting in a disk to clear the harddrive, but nothing happened. I have also tried putting a an XP disk, but same thing. The OS that is currently on there is XP Pro. How to i go about fixing this? I didn't delete the file, i am actually trying to fix it for someone else (and they don't know what happened to it). Or could the hard drive have gone out of it? Anything will help.

whenever i recieve an attachment with PDF format with my mail and try to either download or save the file, the download starts work (it shows that downloading is in progress). But after the downloading is complete, every thing disappears and i cannot see the downloaded version of the file
i want to know the remedy.

Lately when I try to connect to the internet I have been having problems. I have a cable modem. It is sporadic at times and it has only been happening within the past 2 weeks. There are times when I can get on and there are times when it is slow and there are times when I get nothing. I called the cable company and they tried to diagnose it over the phone by sending signals or information to it to no avail. He said that it had something to do with the modem because it wasn't getting the signals. On the bottom of the computer screen there is a little box that is saying that there is "limited or no connectivity". However, the cable modem has all of the lights lit that are always lit when things are going right.

Do you think that it is the modem? It is about 7-8 years old and this is the first time that it has ever happened. Would a new modem solve the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Our ISP is Bulldog Broadband, and has been for less than a year now; we want to stop this service and go to another ISP because Bulldog Broadband is quite...very unreliable.

But when we called, they told us that it would take upto 30 days for it to cut off - WHY?
Another thing is, if it takes about 30 days, that would mean we would have to pay for internet for another month that we dont even want...is this fair?

They take money direct from our bank so we can stop them from taking money from there...

but what can we do to get rid of Bulldog Broadband?

I'm buying a new motherboard and a new processor and if i connect these to my old harddrive will the old harddrive and everything on it still be accessible??
