All isp's require a notice period, usually 1 month. While in your home broadband may be a tap that you can turn on and off, for the provider they do require notice for various administrative purposes. Most providers bill you in advance anyway, so you are unlikely to be required to pay another full month of subscription. Be careful with just stopping paying by direct debit as this will not cancel your service, and if an amount is left outstanding this will show up on your credit file.

read the contract, you need to give 30 days notice of cancelation.
this will mean you need to pay for the next month.
also if you have been with them less than a year - you are on a 12 month contract as are all bulldog customers.
you can cancel the service and they will stop supplying you with broadband but they will continue to charge you the normal price for the remainder of the 12 months.
Would also like to add that I am on bulldog nad apart from some billing errors I have no problems with them.

It does not actually take the company 30 days to shut your service off. This has to be either company policy, or perhaps you signed a yearly contract and this is a penalty. I am not familiar with Bulldog Broadband, but from the reviews I read on the web, it seems they have upset a lot of their customers with these types of acts.

They are jerking you around. The only way I could see it taking that long is if you had signed a contract committing to a full month of service. Trust me, if you had not paid your bill they would have found that "Off" switch real quick! Call them back and insist.

Stop payments immediately - they'll soon cut you off, but keep records of everything so that if they later start the nonsense about you being a bad payer (and thus affect your credit rating), you'll have proof to show that they were pushing something onto you - and charging you - for something which you no longer wanted.

Chances are you pay monthly therefore you will probably have to give them one months notice, thats assuming you are not tied to a minimum 1 years contract. I'd have a quick read of their terms and conditions to see where you stand.

complain, complain, complain.
keep ringing them up telling them just who cr*p you think there service is. Also send them some really snooty letters telling them cr*p they are. soon enough they will get the message. Trust me it does work. ask NTL.
