On Windows, the Alt key functions as a modifier like the shift key. To make special characters, hold down the Alt key and type in the numbers from the numeric keypad.

in Microsoft Word u have Insert symbol ... and u can select from the tables the symbol you like. U can alsow find out the codes for those symbols and use the ALT + Num keypad to write them . ie ALT+204 is â

I think it's ©, but you can always go into Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map (They have all the symbols you need, just copy and paste!

If you are in word, for example, click on insert then symbol, and then change the font to Wingdings. You'll most likely find what you are looking for in there.
