I have:
Pentium 4 Asus Motherboard 2.66GHz
512 MB RAM
256 MB Nvidia Video Card
80 GB Hard Disk (Mainly for software)
40 GB Hard Disk (Partitioned-this is where i put my files)

My boyfriend has:
Pentium 4 MSI Motherboard 2.80GHz
512 MB RAM
128 MB ATI Radeon Video Card
80 GB Hard DIsk

I just bought my pc last month and boyfriend's pc is 2 years old without internet connection so he doesn't get any updates. But for some insane reason, he can play high requirement games like Hitman (the new one) and Oblivion on his pc!!! Meanwhile, I can't play them on mine because they run extremely slow! But it runs so smoothly on his.

Why is this so?
What should I do to improve my pc performance?

I've been trying to figure it out for some time know and can't find out how to do it. I have an iPod mini and would like to take songs off it to put on my boyfriend's computer (which doesn't have iTunes, if that's a problem) but can't find out how to view the songs. I know that if you turn on Hidden Folders, it will let you move the files off the iPod. I know people who have done it, but they didn't show me.

I'm also trying to help two people here on Yahoo do it, but I'm not sure either. Can anyone help?

I know there's software and hardware and stuff out there that can do it, but I know it's possible to do it this way if only I can figure out how to turn on the stinkin' hidden folders. lol! First to answer with something that works gets the 10 points. Thanks!!

so when i set a backgrounbd picture for my msn conversation window, the boxes for sending and receiving messages are still white, whereas my coworker, who has the same background pic, has translucent conversation boxes that show his background pic behind it. how do i get mine to do that????

I want to add another hd to my pc. I currently have an IDE hd. I've heard that SATA are faster than IDE. True or False?

Also, if I were to get a SATA hd, would i be able to run both an IDE and a SATA at the same time? Or would the SATA just override the IDE.

Any ideas?

I have a mysql table that has over 10K rows, and is updated with new rows everyday, about 200-300 new rows a day. When I first created the table, I didnt have many index's for the columns and now that I learned its best to index some of the most used queries in the WHERE clause, I'm wondering if it would be a good thing to anylize that table to hopefully speed things up a bit. And if I should, how should I go about doing that?

I updated the BIOS on my computer, and after it completes, the computer reboots, yet it shuts off right after it displays the amount of RAM in the PC. Does it do this because I updated the wrong BIOS version?

I have an Acer Travelmate 2300 and I've lost the 2nd Recovery CD. If anybody could spare theirs, I would be most grateful. I would even send it back if you need it, since I just need to fix my computer this once.

I'm wondering if there is a virus or something that can make a hard drive disappear entirley. It is not only missing in Windows, but the computer cannot recognoze it at all, and this has recently happened with two of my hard drives. If there is something causing it, is there a way to fix it? Can a person somehow RESET the drive, like you can reset BIOS defaults? Or anything, the drive in question is a Maxtor 40 gig, seems to be in perfect shape, but suddenly disappeared. I burned my AI CS2 file onto a CDRW on a MAC. I dont use MACs so Im lost when it comes to this. I am frustrated because i want to write over that file which is a project for class, but it says that the CD can not be modified.. Whats up? What can I do? What am I doing wrong? What am I not doing?
