Go to Control Panel and double click on the "Power Options" icon. Check your settings for "home/office desk". I would change the power schemes to "always on" and ensure that all the options read "never". Under the "hibernate" tab" ensure that the hibernate option is not checked. Then close that window and double click on the "Display" icon and click on the "screen saver" tab. Select "none". Then close all windows and wait to see if your monitor screen goes blank. If it does, at least you have eliminated a setting as the problem.

Check your power settings in the Control Panel and disable any kind of sleep or standby modes.

If that's not it, you could have a bad power supply or overheating issue. For that, you should contact Compaq or visit their site to look up more information.

I had a Mac that did that.

The motherboard battery was dead. I replaced it and everything was A Okay after that.

I asked a tech where I got it why it 'died' so soon, and he asked whether I cut the power (via a strip) and I answered "yes".

He told me that was why.

Don't sever the power - trust the strip or buy an uninterruptable power supply.

It might be in standby mode. Or You could have a virus or worm. If you move the mouse or use the keyboard and the screen comes on it was in standby mode.
