Help! I can't open my control panel on my computer. It is windows XP, not professional edition. The problem I am having is that I can click on the Icon and have it show up, but an error message shows up right after the window opens that says "windows explorer has encountered a problem and has to close." then it apologizes. It happens every time I try to open Control Panel. The reason I need to open it is that I need to delete a user because it is slowing down my computer. If anyone knows a shortcut to open the users icon in control panel, that would also help. I have tried to get to control panel from the start menu, desktop, shortcuts, my computer, and almost everything else.

Last time I tried (2002), I gave up because Speedstep wasn't working under Linux and the CPU was always functionning at full speed, which reduced the battery life by a third or so. Is it still the case?
