period during which a person serves as an intern; specialized training program which gives the trainee hands-on experience (especially in the field of medicine)

An internship is usually unpaid work experience. They give you an opportunity to try out a certain job without pay. You usually get college credit for it though. I did 3 while in college and they were all valuable experiences. Sometimes people even end up getting jobs with the same company after graduation.

just a correction to the second answer you have. Depending on the field, the internship can be paid. For example, most engineering interns are paid.

It is temporarily employment. Employer will hire students to get their some stupid work to be done so that permanent employee do not have to do that stupid work....
And they judge for the full time job on the basis of the work that you have done in internship....

That's where you work for a short while in an industry, without pay mostly, as an apprentice.

For Democrats this means you suck off a fat slimeball.
