The answer is, "it depends".

If you are using a typical consumer digital camera, say at 6 megapixels. And you are saving your photos as high-quality JPEGs, then a safe estimate would be that each photo will be about 1.5 to 2.0MB.

Thus, the DVD (4.7GB) would hold roughly 2500 photos.

This is a safe generalization. In all likelihood, you can hold more depending on your camera. You could easily get twice that amount if you have a camera with only 4 megapixels; or you set your camera to save the photos in "Good" or "Medium" quality (not "Best").

Here's a way to get a much more accurate answer for your particular situation:

(a) On your computer, open up a folder that holds a bunch of photos from your camera -- say, a dozen or more.

(b) In the menu bar, select "Tools", then "Details".

(c) Look down the column that says "Size". You will see numbers that look like 900 KB; or 1,540 KB; or, 2,412 KB, etc.

(d) Look at that size column, and in your head try to guess a high average. That is to say, try to pick a number that you think is the rough average of all those numbers (doesn't have to be exact). Guess on the high side just to be conservative.

(e) Let's say the number you picked in step d is 1,600. Take a calculator and do the following:

4700000
divided by 1600 (or whatever number you chose in step d)

equals: X

X is the rough number of photos you can hold on the disc. Decrease the number by about 25% just to be safe.

that question is one that needs a lot more information before it is answered,
Here are some requirements to get a sensible answer.
1/What format are the photos in
2/What resolution are they
3/How many colours are used
even after these things are taken into account some cameras will also do pictures in economy, normal, fine, and superfine
your answer will be closer if you can give this information

depends on the digital camera.... Assuming you have a 1 mega pixel camera it would 4700 pics.... divide by 5 for a 5 megapixel camera.
