I'm currently deciding between a Saab Sport Exhaust, an ECU upgrade, or perhaps even an intake or intercooler. I'd like to add some sound and HP with about a $1200 budget. Open to any other suggestions (it's obviously a turbo by the way)...

I was looking at a car ad, and it stated that this '88 saab didn't have a turbo. What does this mean?

I have a Saab 9-5 Wagon (2004) that I'd like to check out the computer for, and possibly program some options. Not engine performance - I know there are programs for that, like the BSR PPC, but just little convenience things, and just get an idea for what I can do.

Is there a site somewhere that gives instructions on how to access the computer? I don't mind buying some equipment if it's not too pricey, but I'd think a certain amount can just be done with the onboard information panel.

Thanks

I understand that older Saabs are a pain to work on, and tend to have a lot of quirky mechanical problems.
But after GMC purchased Saab did they improve mechanically speaking? Is there a year after which Saabs have become better cars, or should I look at another brand?

My Saab need those stupid little aluminum lower control arm bushing spacers. Has anyone ever had to change them and if so, is there an aftermarket for them?

How and when did Saab get started and when did GM buy them?

They have been out since I purchased the vehicle back in March but am finally looking to get them working again. H1 bulbs correct? In addition to a how to, does anyone recommend a certain brand for longevity?

It has just over 123K miles on it and here recently i have had a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. It wants to go into 4th and then i have to either search harder for 2nd and if can't find it go into 3rd. Clutch feels fine. Tonight something bad happened. Was still not finding 2nd but also had to force into 1st. After a few aggravating moments trying to get into 1st and then find 2nd i started to smell something, a hot rubber like smell. Tranny fluid maybe? I pulled it over and there it sits. Someone last week told me after driving it that they thought it was a linkage issue and not a tranny problem. Any idea what could have happened tonight and what the problem is. No leaks under the car that I could find.

I have always wanted a Saab and I wanted to know how Saab owners felt about their Saabs. Do they like them or do they hate them. I'm thinking about buying the 9-3 sedan.

It's pretty self explanatory. After 18+ years it's still running.
Those trolls at the factory probably need some admiration.
So how many ?

I'm looking at purchasing a 2002 Saab 9-5 ARC, and I've received mixed advice regarding the reliability of these cars in general. I realize that because it’s a somewhat uncommon foreign car, it will be more expensive and time consuming to repair. As I said, some people have told me these are good cars, and the downside is that when they do need repair, it’s more expensive. Others have told me that Saabs are prone to problems, and are expensive to repair on top of that. The latter is my concern. Good cars or not so good – that’s my question?

In doing reserach online, I have gotten a lot of mixed reviews. People talk about the increased safety and performance on the '99 Saab 9-3, others talk about the 9-3's propensity to eat motors (at a cost of $4,000 plus per time).
The 900 sounds to be more mechanically reliable, but gets worse gas mileage and may not be quite as safe. But I don't know for sure.
I am decent on keeping up with scheduled maintenance, but am looking for a car to take to 200,000 miles plus. Any advice?
Thanks!

It is a 1996 CSi 2 litre. I don't know whether this model has a hydraulic or cable clutch. The clutch engages fine, no graunching of the gears, and no slippage. Just very stiff. Answers greatly appreciated!

I could use some recommendations on how to get more speed out of my car. I have a 1985 Saab 900 S 16 valve, non-turbo. Everything is stock.
